Follow Up: Camping World does this seem right?

Duplicate Post

My original posting:
I called Camping World the other day to see about buying and having them install a Splendide 2100XC vented washer/dryer combo. They said, the unit was $1399.00 and the installation was $399.00 they had a special on in stallion of $49 I told them that I had seen that they had the washer/dryer on sale for $1049.00. The gentleman said, that if I elected the sales price, then I couldn't get the special installation. He said, it was one or the other, not both. Plus, he said, since I wanted a vented unit, it would be $64.00 to drill the hole for the vent. I questioned him about this, and asked him if this wasn't part of the installation? He said, no! it was extra....and it could be more, depending on what problems they ran into as far as fittings, hoses etc. I had already told him, that my motor home, is plumbed for a washer and dryer. He sent estimate, that I already deleted, but the total was over $1800.00 installed........and it wasn't really an estimate, just a questamate. I can understand that.....till they see the motor home, but I don't see how they can have two specials, but you can only use one? What do you think

A few days after the above posting, I was contacted by a gentleman from Good Sam. In between that time, I had picked up a Camping World flyer. Ads are good thru Dec 28, 2014. On pages 20-21 across the top it says $59.00 Installation. Has picture of the washer/dryer and says UP to $285.00 off. When I had made my first called, the washer/dryer was Reg $1399 on sale $1049. now they have it for $959. The Rep from Good Sam looked at the Ad and we discussed what had transpired and he came to the same conclusion I had. That the unit was on sale and installation would be $59. He informed me he would contact Camping World and get back to me. A few days later he contacted me and said I would be getting a call from Camping World in San Marcos Ca. A few minutes later Darren from Camping World did call. Long Story short........Camping World only offers the installation price of $59 if you purchase the unit in house and in my case that would be $1399. Camping World claims the ad is for internet pricing only....and the installation special is for items purchased in house at in store pricing. One of the statements on page 20 of the ad in small print states "Valid only on products purchased at Camping World SuperCenters"........doesn't that mean.......$59 installation and up to $285 off the Washer/Dryer.....what am I missing? To me this form of advertising is very misleading. What do you think?

  • I don't think much of CW, never have but I do think it is unrealistic to think you can get something for nothing. As much as I don't care for them I realize they gotta make a margin. No business can do that by giving things away.

Buy the washer/dryer at their internet price and go see if you can find anyone who will install that thing for $59. Considering that even the best independent (and most better than CW) RV shops charge from $85 - $125 per hour for labor depending on where you live, it just is unrealistic to expect anyone to give you a rock bottom price on both.

Based on the quality of the work I've seen at CW, I'd take advantage of their best price on the machine then find a good shop with folks who know what they are doing to do the installation.
  • People, There are no rules anymore. We are in a dog eat dog world right now.
Look at the leaders who purposely lied to the public.
If you can't do things yourself- you will be getting screwed so set back and enjoy it or learn how to do things yourself.
    Dam- I hate being serious.

I suggest your next call should be to your states attorneys general office and file a complaint of false and misleading advertising. That should get their attention.
    X-2

That is truly false & misleading advertising. Your local consumer fraud division at the SAO would love to see a "formal" complaint.
  • I have always understand that a free or reduced price install always included other restrictions or conditions. Ain't no free lunch.
  • Isn't tricky misleading advertising the American Way?

You might consider sending an e-mail to Marcus Lemonus (Camping World CEO). Good luck!

I've had many dealings with CW and have emailed Marcus with great success. I also had a water/dryer installed -- all it cost was $39 at the time.
  • Sounds like they try to bait you with a flyer, then when you go in to have it done things change,in their favor, and end up costing a lot more than you thought it would be.
