Side note: The majority of the time, most people leave theirs on AU (automatic) so that when going from driving to campground and back it's seamless.
There is an occasion where it can be an advantage to force it to gas operation instead of automatic. That occurs when you're at a campground with only 20 or 30 amp power and you need to run other high draw items like a heater. By forcing the refer to gas operation only, you save the amperage needed to run the refer.
