Hello and happy Sunday,

I thought I would ask your opinions, we have a ram 2500 manual transmission diesel pick up truck, due to knee issues we are looking at either a new pick up truck and keep the 30 ft TT OR we are looking at a HR Neptune diesel 35 ft class A.For those of you who have up graded to a Class A,what positive or negative thoughts have you to share. Thank you for your candidness.

I'm going to take a different position from most. I used to tow a Keystone Raptor 35.5' with a Dodge Ram 3500 DRW 4WD and carried a HD motorcycle in the back. Now traveling with the 07 Itasca Horizon 40'DP, hydra lift for the M/C and towing a Jeep. In my opinion, driving the truck was less fatiguing than the motorhome. Setting up each has it's peculiarities and if an overnight in a pull through site, the motorhome is easier as I don't even need to get out to level, boards required for there 5th wheel.
When traveling with the toy hauler, the bike arrived clean, not so with the motorhome and lift, but I have tons of more room in the motorhome. Back to driving, we could carry on a conversation in a normal voice. ALL motorhomes are noisy driving, some far more than others, because a box going down the road isn't very aerodynamic and sound proofing just not possible unless spending perhaps millions on one.

There are advantages to each but in many ways I miss the truck and 5th wheel. If I were put in the position to have to replace the RV setup completely, I would consider going back to the truck/5th wheel toy hauler combo.

That said, I enjoy driving the motorhome and getting everything ready to travel or "camp" for the night or week is easy.

We switched from a TT to a MH years ago. So much easier pulling into a campground and just relaxing after a hard day driving. My opinion is that both TTing and MHs are the same work level driving so no difference there, they both leave you tired (but maybe that's just because I got old!). Most campsites require unhitching. With our new Winne with 4 house batteries and an inverter, I don't even have to hook up right away if I'm too beat! I've always been a fan of gas fridges and it also comes into play here as I don't have a residential one running down my batteries. We can enjoy the TV/lights/computer without worrying about plugging in until the next day unless it's going to be hot enough to require the ACs.

Be careful of the slide in back of the drivers seat, make sure you have enough room to slide your seat back and straighten your knee. If your knee problem is due to arthritis the straighter that you can keep your knee the less pain you will have. I found it more comfortable in a car or truck over a class A.

Last September we went from a 04 1500 Ram Quad Hemi with a 322FKS Jayco and ended up in a 03 Neptune DP, 5500 Onan Gen, Allison trans.

Gave up a king bed and love the difference. JR45 said it the best as we are both happy even tho it costs more.

I was in the same boat. After 36 years heavy construction as a service oiler my knees and back were telling me to get something different. We had a 2003 32' Alpenlite 5er and an 06 Ford CC 4x4. In the 10 years we had the 5er I put on one set of tires, 2 sets of batteries and a flat screen TV. Kind of EZ on the pocket book.
Now with my Country Coach air leveling, if it's raining no problem put the slide out and start the gem-set. But when it come to upkeep $4200.00 for tires, RR frig, reseal window, getting car setup to tow. My pocket book is a lot thinner but I like it (happy wife happy life). It cost a lot more to run a MH than a truck and TT.
