Fuel pump

2000 F-450 fuel pump now makes continuous buzzing noise. Slow failure? Imminent death? Any ideas on dealer costs to replace?
  • Local auto part store let me borrow their fuel pressure gauge (threads on like valve cover cap) and checked fuel pressure. Easier than checking the oil after I saw it done one time.
  • Could be something is just loose and rattling. I would feel around the area and see if I could change the pitch or stop it all together.
  • Not sure about the buzz but I have never had any fuel pump replaced in a shop that had to be dropped for less than $1000.
  • I replaced the pump in my motorhome last year. It is on a 2005 Ford E450 chassis. The pump assembly cost me $480. I did the work myself so you would have to add labor costs.
