As Doug said, check the quick connect at the generator for corroded or broken pins, and also for a pin that has pushed back in the socket on either side. A couple of years ago, the remote splice that Doug mentioned caused our remote gen start problem when a corroded butt connector let go. It was about a foot from the plug inside a plastic wire wrap. I fixed a similar butt connector problem for a neighbor just a month or so ago, except that both his stop and start positions quit working except at the generator. In both cases, I used soldered and shrink wrapped connections as a more permanent fix.
