gen set question

We had extensive work done on the gen set this spring and all was well. This past weekend two things occurred. First the fuel gauge would delay registering after refueling for 20 miles or so, very slow creep from E to F. Second, the gen set shut down when we still were showing a half tank. (only had driven about 200 miles since last tank fill so am pretty sure the tank was registering accurately)

My question is, is the cut off for the gen set at a 1/4 tank an electrical cut off or simply a pickup tube that can not suck below a 1/4 tank.

As Always Thanks!
  • I'm not aware of there having been a standard regarding how much fuel is preserved after the generator uses its allotment. My impression of this was coach builders placed the generator pickup above the engine fuel pickup so users could not run themselves out of fuel with no actual figures available. I know one thing; When that generator runs out of fuel you need to play it safe and get filled up soon.
  • Fuel gauge should not been effected by work on genset as it normally comes on main fuel tank of MH.
The genset should have a separate pickup tube that ends when about 1/4 tank of fuel remains.
Sure sounds like the repair may have had something to do with work on fuel tank. The float is dragging along the fuel pick up tube thus causing it to respond slowly. When they worked on fuel system, maybe installing new fuel pump it was not installed correctly.
  • Mine is a pickup tube. I replaced a few years back due to crack on the outside of tank.
