Hi All,I have a 5500 genset in the front storage compartment, the exhaust goes out the bottom of the compartment then points forward ending about 4" in front of the compartment.This is directly below our bedroom so am nervous about CO entering the coach.The solution is, of course, a Genturi, however all the ones I've seen have a short metal extension to the exhaust then a 90 degree bend up to where it joins the larger pipe to eventually end above the coach roof.This isn't an option as I have to extend the horizontal portion to clear the forward overhang.So, my question is how to best accomplish this without creating too much back pressure (is that even an issue?) and also make it easy to install and store.I was thinking of just using 3" PVC straight out to just forward of the of the overhang, a 90 degree joint, then straight up to just above the roofline. I could attach it somehow to the pinbox for support, bungee or something for testing, then something more permanent once passed the proof of concept.Your thoughts?TIATim(edited for clarity)

I do think that the PVC pipe will get soft when the heat from the exhaust goes through it.I have a genturi but my onan is a juice box model. I had a friend make up an exhaust extension and he used stainless steel to make it. It bolts to the exhaust outlet under the juice box, then goes to the genturi which I attached to the rear ladder so it would go up and over the 5er. I never ran the onan at night. The juice box is portable and attaches to a rear hitch on the 5er. You have a different setup than mine but it's an idea for you. Good luck.

I had made a Genturi with PVC (similar to the commercial branded). The PVC did soften a little bit (enough to stick together when hot), and that's with cool air coming in from the bottom right next to the exhaust, you'll probably see the PVC distort with a long run as cool air may not enter freely being horizontal. If you want to extend forward, I would use EMT conduit or similar exhaust piping with an adapter (use as big or larger pipe than the OEM exhaust) then after you turn 90 with the metal, then put your PVC genturi on. This will prevent too much softening of PVC due to lack of air-flow through the PVC.

I agree that the PVC would likely melt if you tried to run it, but as a "proof of concept", it's not a bad idea. For permanent use, I'd either have a muffler shop bend some stainless pipe to clamp on to the extension or use piece of flexible exhaust tube.Lyle

I made my Genturi out of aluminum downspout. No worry about melting. A 10' section cut in half for storage and then a 2' piece. This gets me well about the roof line.

You can get GenTuri exhaust extension pipes on Amazon. I bought a 36" section with a 90 degree bend at one end to get my genny exhaust to a place where the GenTuri did not interfere with the bedroom window awning. No issues with back pressure. Only concern is that the pipe gets really hot when in use. Fits in the bag that came with the GenTuri.

I probably average several hours a day while dry camping in National and some State parks, then about 2 weeks on the Blm in Quartzite. In a years time, I would say 4 weeks a year. It's at least 10 years old and still works. Maybe a scratch or small dent here and there. When in storage in the bay, I use the sections to hold walking stick, Car wash poles, squezze poles, etc.

NO on the pvc pipe. If you look at the instructions it will show you how to extend the 'exhaust' pipe to the left or right.

I would take it to a muffler shop and have them make you an extension off the generator exhaust using the same hole and pin method that is on the genturi. So you can remove it when not in use. They will have the equipment to correctly bend the pipe.

My gen exhaust pipe IMHO did not extend far enough away from the side of the MH. I had a muffler shop put a new exhaust extension off the gen. I think they charged me all of $10 bucks to do it.

IMHO the Genturi is the only way to go. The patented pipe they use is NOT hot to the touch. You can run that gen 24 7's as I have, and you can grab that pipe and it is cold. Home made ones out of gutters etc are metal and are HOT to the touch and could burn the side of your RV and not to mention if someone or a child walks by your MH and touches it they could get burned. Just saying.

X2 on alum gutter downspout. Leave about a 2" air gap into it and a 90 to turn it up. Already designed to slip together and tougher than you might think. Total cost less than $20 including 4" suction cup.

There is a PVC that is used for high heat applications...if I remember correctly its CPVC, used on furnaces and boiler flues, non pressurized is good for 180-200 degrees. I don't think I've seen an exhaust pointing forward as you said yours is but aside from using CPVC I'd probably have an exhaust shop make something to get it to the side where you can hook up your vertical pipe.
