Generac Generator Repair/Replacement

Some time ago, I removed my genset and discovered a blown stator winding. Have almost decided to give up the ship and go with a $300 Champion from Camping World or other. On the other hand and no matter how you mount it, you have issues to deal with. Even with repairing it, these stators are expensive and on back order from Generac and with the company who has taken over it's RV sales and service. Then you have to wonder, what's next. Not interested in trying to stuff an oversize Onan in there either, which wouldn't really save a nickle, anyway.
In the meanwhile, I'd like to talk with anyone who has a good stator or the complete generator (not the whole engine ass'y) itself, on hand.
The genset is a series Q-55G and the stator part number is 087844-G and for whatever reason the G has been replaced by and H.

    Appreciated.

Sorry about not getting back to you, until now, but evidently, I didn't get an alert in my mail box for this thread. I've sent you a PM as well.
Anyway,This company has taken over Generac's RV Generator section....

    13784 Monte Vista Avenue

    Phone: (909) 591-4341

Now, even though I dealt with CA, the stator was still shipped by Generac and out of WI.

  • Update:
Finally gave up on finding a good used stator and bought a new one for approx. $360, including shipping. Installed the stator, ran and tested the genset and then re-installed it in the coach.
Runs like a champ, with good voltage output and only did one little mod as a result, which was to extend the starter solenoid's hot wire onto an insulator out in front, for better access if and when it's needed.
  • Thanks for all the replies.
My research has shown that it costs more for a rewind, with not that many shops even interested locally and since this began, I've found a decent price for a new one from the company who has taken over Generac RV sales and service.
Problem now is that they're back ordered and should find out today, when they might be available.
  • Check with RV salvage yards for a generator out if a wreck, just my 2 cents; kdk
  • I agree with the above, find a local motor rewind shop. On my previous rig (97 Winne Vectra) mice had made a nest in the genset and when I removed the stator I noted damaged in the windings. Onan wanted $800 for a replacement and a local shop repaired it for $78. Good luck.

Is it possible to find someone local to rewind the stator? My son in law rewinds alternators, stators & generators for a living. Might ask at a NAPA or other auto parts store for a name. Just a suggestion

I was thinking the same thing. You've done the hard part and figured out what's wrong now comes step 2 and finding a rewind shop. Rewinds are not difficult and cost effective.
