Generac Q550 running rough need help

our 1996 Generac air cooled 5500 watt v-twin is acting up. Basically the left cylinder isn't firing when a load is applied like an a/c being switched on.

take the load off it runs fine.. spark plug from left bank gets fouled and is wet with gas. I take it out and clean it, or install a new one, it runs great initially but turn on the a/c and the gen runs on 1 cylinder. I can't see how it could be anything wrong with the carb. So I'm asking for opinions, could it be a burnt valve? could it be a coil on it's last legs?

pulling the plugs and checking spark, they both look nearly equal, maybe the left problem plug has a slightly weaker spark. so I'm thinking it could be a weak coil.

Anyone know how tough it is to replace a coil on this model?
  • I decided to get grimy and tear into it. Found a dead magneto coil. So am ordering 2 new ones now.

    Thanks for the suggestions!
  • Watch it in the dark and make sure the plug wire is not shorting. There will be no doubt.
  • I would gap the left plug slightly less than the right to verify. Maybe set the right at .030 and the left at .025 or what ever is less than called for. See if it runs better, worse, or no change. Running better could point to a weak spark, coil.
