Georgie Boy Maverick Adding an Awning

Hi,
I have a 1998 Georgie Boy Maverick. I wanted to add a window awning over the sofa window. It would be under the patio awning. The technician at the RV repair place said it would be too much weight on one side. Does anyone know why he would say that? Has anyone else done this? Were there any problems?
