In other forums where this is discussed it is mentioned the affected tires were made in or before 2003. Hopefully nobody is wearing Rubber that old less the unit is perma-parked and thus not dangerous.

Also, the tires in question were designed for short haul delivery and not RV's. I think the RV manufacturer is at fault here for either specifying the wrong tires, or not changing them out when they built the body on the chassis (if made by someone else).

But this should be a warning to stay away from GY RV tires. The replacement for the 159's is the G670. Another GY piece of junk with no warranty!!!

I think this is more the point. Seems that NHTSA has concerns with not only the G159, but it is also concerned with the G670 as not being good replacement.
This issue was reported on the local news.

OK, What is the purpose? The LAST tire was made in 2003. In the BEST case, the tires were outdated in 2013, but really 2010/11. Which means, this is a NON story. It died(pun) when the last operational tire should have been gone by 2011 at the latest. There should be NONE of these tires anywhere on the road and NONE at a Goodyear Retailer. Doug

My purpose of posting this was I had never heard about it and I thought others might be interested in reading. Plus info for others that may not have heard about it and may be considering replacing their tires with Goodyears, they have this history so may want to steer clear of them.

Thing is.... when I first bought my RV, it had the G159 tires on it....and we promptly had a blowout. Fortunately, it was a rear inner dually, so other than the mess it left in the fender well there was no wreck and no injury. Fast forward...we replaced them all with G647s, and less than 40 days later another blowout due to a faulty tire....date codes were about 6 months old when it happened....tread just peeled off the tire and destroyed everything in the fender well including gas filler neck, wiring and both exhaust pipes (engine and genset) which had just been replaced from the previous blowout. My insurance subrogated against Goodyear and the claim was paid once they received the tire carcass for analyzing.

I know there are probably hundreds of thousands of tires manufactured each year and out of them, only a small percentage fail regardless of how we abuse them. But if there is a known safety issue, why not own up to it and recall and/or fix the problem? Sure it costs money now, but how much will you make in the future by making things right and maintaining customer confidence?

So you think they should start a recall now on a tire 15 yrs. old. You are living in the past.

The more sensational they make the story sound, the more clicks they get. The more clicks they get, the better it makes them feel. They can go to their boss and say, "Look how many clicks my story got"! That's just how the news is today. Surprised they didn't make it "Breaking News" SMH.....Dennis
