Hardwood Flooring

I am beginning to think of option for replacing the original carpet in the living area of our Beaver. Currently we have the carpet in the living area, ceramic tile in the kitchen and bath area, and carpet again in the bedroom.

All of these are in surprisingly good condition for a 15 you coach but the living area carpet is beginning to mat down and not look so perfect. While I hat to give it up, partly because of the interesting inlayed design Beaver used in the Thunder model, but I know something will need to be done in the near future. There are no thoughts to replace the bedroom carpet.

Unlike a lot of folks, we do enjoy the carpet so replacing it is one option.

Going with tile or hardwood is the other option of course but than we're faced with how to interface with the existing tile or replacing all of it.

Hearing what other have done would be useful. particularly how you deal with the areas under the slide, what tile or hardwood was used, and etc.

Note, this will not be a DIY project and I don't want to use "cheap" materials.

Lots of ways to get rid of carpet. Cleaning it, if you have stains that have penetrated the backing into the pad is throwing money away. Engineered wood is a great choice. There are flexible transitions you can use. Glue it with urethane adhesive.
Or replace the whole business with engineered wood and that will make your coach look larger. Ernie Ekberg

I agree with BuckBarker to get a professional carpet cleaner. I love our carpet in the living room and bedroom I would not do without them. Many have changed to wood tiles and some ceramics that look like marble floors which look beautiful. But what do not like about them is in the winter months the floor just gets too darn cold unless you have the heated floors like some coaches. I only have two heat pumps on top and furnace so I would never go for the wood floors or all ceramic, marble floors. I think if I really liked my carpet but needed replacing I would take it to a professional that lays carpets and put some new carpet on the RV. I am sure they do it all the time.

I personally hate the way wood floors look on a RV. I would rather have the marble looking floors. But that is just me! Everybody has different likes and dislikes.

If you like the carpet but are concerned about the fibers matting down, then look into a professional carpet cleaning service. No, not one of those companies that advertise in Penny Saver.

If you get a chance, check out Beauflor RV flooring materials. Quite a few higher end RVs are starting to install this. It is resilient, nice looking, and easy to clean.
