I am 4000km from home in my class A and this morning I was able to do about 4 miles before tons of smoke would come from the rear left tires.I have just been towed 100 miles to Flagstaff and awaiting shop opening tomorrow am.Let me start by saying I was 3 days parked in Grand Canyon Mather campground with the outer left wheel not really having alot of weight and the inner with lots of weight and a bit bulgingSo 3 things: braking issue (but really it does not smell brake fluid of heating brakes. Leaking differential fluid on the brakes or I just thought of rubbing tires together.Really the smoke seems blue to me and the smell is the same one as a burnout.Ideas?

My guess is you have a flat tire on the inside dual tire. When it looses its air the diameter is smaller and its tread will be scuffed off and dragged along by the other tire.

Don't know which service center you are at, but Northern Arizona Diesel is the only service center I'd let work on my coach in Flagstaff....How were you set up at Mather>? Sounds like you were unlevel and put boards under one tire and not the other. Bulging tires are not good. Do you have and use a TPMS? If not, have you checked the air pressure on both rear tires? I agree with the inside dual having low air. Once they warmed up, they rubbed and caused the smoke. I would plan on at least TWO new tires.....Dennis

If it has disc brakes a sticking caliper is a likely candidate.

I agree with Paul and Dennis. And when they check it out make sure they look at the air filler extensions if your rig has them. I had nothing but trouble with them so I got them to just put the shorter stainless steel straight extenders on. The last time I had the problem, I was parked for a week and sure enough when I checked pressures before I left the site, the left inside dual was flat, and the tire guy showed me the problem with the braided extension. Tire pressure is 75lb on all wheels. Back wheels have the extensions already.

Axle seal leaking will not cause smoke on tire less it has been doing it a long time and all the oil is gone and the bearing is overheating

Workhorse used BOSCH brakes that had/have a habit of not releasing properly, That will do it.

Most of the other suggestions I have seen in this thread will not.

I had a seriously leaking seal, They fixed it, no smoke, no fire, just oil on the tire and ground.

Well axle seal was leaking on left side, had both sides done at rv service center in flagstaff

Good service nice folks

Now I have a leak in one of the front air bags :-(

I had the same thing happen, I thought brakes but had no time to work on it so took it to a shop they called and said rear seal was leaking $125 plus tax.

Less than a 2 hour job.

I had 2 leaky seals on my chevy dually. I had a full brake job done that included the new seals and the total was 380 bucks.

You have a bad axel seal on the rear end. Should cost around 400 bucks.

Part number for what? Be more specific. Where is it leaking from? Which seals? There are many different seals in the diff.

It s in the shop. Oil from differential leaking.

Anybody knows part number for this? I have a limited amount of trust in rv workshops
