Help with my inverter!

Did you ever find the battery?
Sounds like you found your battery connectors but no cables or battery.

Regarding being RV savy, I came up through the ranks as a mechanic, now I sell what I use to work on so I have a better than average mechanical aptitude, however, working on our RV has been somewhat of a frustrating affair for me. Most newer RV's have a fairly complex electrical system and it goes over my head often. I just finished chasing a generator issue, corroded hot wire from gen ECU to remote start switch, manufacturer was certain I had a bad ECU, cha ching, $wasted because the original ECU was still good, then there was the inverter issue. All modes of my new Xantrex 3000 watt charger/inverter worked except for the inverter mode. It took me a couple weeks in my spare time to finally figure this gremlin out. Turns out, the inverter was switched to 'search' mode. Turned search mode off and bingo, inverter powers up and works just fine now.

Don't be too hard on yourself and don't let some of the uneducated posters bother you about asking for help. Even the more seasoned RV owners have problems they can't figure out. Many of them simple take their rigs to a shop for repair because of either time or knowledge. Good luck with your new/old RV. In about a year you will be answering questions like you have posted here.

Ok I think I have found my answer. After carefully looking over the owners manual, and I mean carefully, I actually saw a small diagram with 2 Lugs on the unit. Take a guess what those are for...you got it, one is pos batt and the other is neg batt. Now to address the rude comments, not everyone is RV savvy, hence the reason they have forums like this. It take a real piece of samsonite to address a noob in the manner that has been displayed. Next time you might want to think about being a little more understanding, and remember the time you were a noob as well. As for the others, thank you for you help. There are people left on this earth with a functioning brain!!

Look for the coach battery by the passenger door. Get on the ground and look for it from underneath. Had a GM about that vintage long time ago and had the same problem finding it.

I knew of a Mallard, about 1990, that did not have a house battery.

Looks like a junk Magnetek converter. Best to just replace.

No inverter function.

I'd consider replacing that converter/inverter. It is a caveman compared to what we have now.

BFL13 found a 2000 watt inverter charger that does operate in a hybrid manner. It would be ideal for most folks.

Howdy and welcome. From what I remember there is no inverter function on that converter. It is as far as I know simply an average quality trickle charger with distro panel. What document or label indicated to you that it was an inverter. Can you post a picture?

Yeah that would have helped. DUH! Sorry, its a 1983 GMC 30, with a the camper made by Mallard. I think I may have figured this out. It looks like I found a schematic online finally and the wires coming from the "Battery" are pretty small. Compared to regular battery cables. I was looking for something like those. Might only be like 8 gauge wire.
