High hours on generator

I am looking at a 2004 Mirada with only 17,500 miles, but nearly 650 hours on the generator. I have a 1997 rv with 37,000 miles on it with fewer hours than this. The rv does not look like it has been lived in, but I figured that if it were driven at an average of 40mph, there would have been 2 hours of generator use for every hour of driving. Does anyone have any speculation on this? Is it something I should be worried about or am I just being a little paranoid?

Had 1100 hours on my purchased '05 rental. Was hard starting BECAUSE I did not use it enough. My '11 Bounder ran rough because I did not use it enough... Get the hint?
Got to use my '15 more...

If they went someplace Quartzsite and it was hot out, they could have run the generator for several 12 hour days. We've run ours for 6 - 8 hours when at the Las Vegas NHRA Finals. Who can hear it over all of the funny cars running 200 yards away? Sure is nice to come back to a cool MH after sitting in the hot stands.

At 24 hrs a day that's less then 30 days. In ten years that's only 3 days a year

I also would not be concerned with the generator time. I'll run mine going down the road for roof AC rather than the dash. Actually get a touch better MPG. Also our coach is a life boat incase of a power outage. My home generator will keep the fridge/freezer going and such but won't power the HVAC. First year of ownership we had a hurricane that knocked out power for four days in late August. Want to guess where we spent most our time until power was restored? Also my 2006 generator has over 1200 hours while the coach has 45,000 miles. But also I have detailed maintenance records to include oil analysis with each change.

650 hours on an 11 year old RV/generator is about 5 hours a month.
I don't see a problem or abuse.
Last week I ran the generator in our 96 Southwind 4 hours just for exercise, with the A/C running.
650 hours wouldn't concern me.

Seems like a reasonable number of hours to me. Better to run the generator than to let it sit. Those numbers wouldn't bother me at all. Also, remember some of us have used our generators at home durng power outages in addition to those who like to boondock.

It may have been used for boondocking or someone was running a business and needed power.

It's obvious that the coach was not driven much but used some. Generators like to be used. 650 hours over 11 yrs. is not really that high. Generators can go 1,000's and 1,000's of hours before a rebuild.

Diesel genny's can go 10's of thousands of hours before a rebuild (hearsay). Not really sure of a gas genny, but if it's half of the 20,000 hours of a diesel genny for a rebuild, 10,000 hours is a long time away.

Good luck,
MM.

A gas generator should go 5000+ hours so I would not worry about it. 60 hours/year.
