House battery question

Hi,

In a Michigan winter, is it common for a house battery to become ruined if one does not regularly recharge it? Or keep the RV connected to 120 24/7?

I ask this because last May 2012, we purchased an brand new SRM29 Interstate Deep Cycle battery, 675 cold cranking amps, and it appears the thing is now dead a year later. By dead I mean it seems it will not hold a charge.

Over the winter, we did not keep the RV plugged into our outside 120 V outlet, until starting early to mid January, then after that I made sure I hooked the RV up to 120 about once every week or two for a full day to keep it charged. Sometimes I kept it plugged in for a number of days at a time. But it seems to me that a battery should not run dead if it sits for a month or so without using it or re charging it but is that what is needed? To keep the RV plugged in 24 7 throughout the winter?

This has happened to us a few times so I am wondering if we just need to keep it connected or if there is something else going on like a short in our electrical system.
