So once again, I was giving sample of misleading info on the linked site using I-15 sample that I know very well.
That was side observation at the time, but "it happen" to lot of drivers planning similar route that they figure out the detour to Las Vegas is not such a bad thing, so I would not be surprised if the 2 ways the topic diverted will merge.
If the routing is misleading on I-15 it is very likely to be misleading on I-10 anyway.

Take the bypass south of Phoenix by taking 8 and then cutting across. I can't remember the number but it is marked and a great road. Saves time and hassle of Phoenix. I don't recall any real grade issues.
I believe that is 85 from Gila Bend and yes it's a great bypass. For that matter you can take 8 all the way to Yuma and cut up to Quartzsite. These will add miles but is an easy drive.

I-15 Mountain Pass is having 4700' elevation.
Obviously the 4.+% is quoted Caltrans warning sign and the % is not consistent on whole 30 miles grade.
Still the point is that with all those burned holes on the side of the road smart driver would scratch his head before going there with defective cooling system.
That applies to the site showing it as easy grade and does not have to apply to OP route.

You have to trust me that 30 miles of 4.9% grade is real vehicle killer.
Especially in areas where 110F is not that rare.

The route does show sections of grade over 5% (yellow color). The green is less than 5% grade. Yellow is 5 - 10% grade. I do not see that misleading???

110F in January? That would be a record and more proof of global warming than anything to date.
