How do you clean an ice maker

Last fall I winterized my RV and put pink stuff thru the ice maker. Thru the winter the antifreeze worked well, because this spring I ran water thru the lines and made several trays of ice until the ice was no longer pink. Trouble is the ice has black spots in it which I am assuming is mold. How do you get ride of the mold? I have tried to let the ice melt and clean but my hands are a little big and I cant get at all the water remaining in the tray. Do I have to tear it apart?

Thanks,

G George
  • In order to drain the line, you must remove the entire refrig because this was one of Coachmens, "BETTER IDEAS". There is no drain, no filter, no cut off valve, nothing without removing the refrig and gaining access to the back.

    Thanks for the ideas.

  • Why would you put pink stuff in an icemaker? It is made for ice! Just drain the line to the icemaker and you are all set.
  • If it is mold from sitting just fill an eye dropper with Clorox and put it into the ice tray and let it sit over night. Then let the ice maker go through 2 cycles. If you still have black spots after that, install a in line water filter on the fill tube.
  • When I sanitize my water lines (after flushing pink stuff and making pink ice), I also run the icemaker again (mine's a stand alone unit built in under the counter) and let it make ice until I smell the bleach and let everything stand overnight.
Then when flushing the system with fresh water, I run it again and let it fill the bucket. No problems so far.
