How long do you drive in a day?

That is what I aim for.

X2 But sometimes even 300 is a long day LOL. Always pulling in by 2 or 3 for the night.

Ah, but it's great to be retired and have the luxury of taking our sweet time with travels. Example: we left home in New England on Halloween and finally arrived in Florida on 22 Dec. Wandering down the coast off the interstates is quite pleasant with so many neat places to stop for a few days at a time.

Our ideal travel day is to hit the road after breakfast, drive 100 miles (maybe 150 if we're really pushing it) and arrive at the day's destination in time for lunch. Gives us time for an afternoon walk and/or to sit and relax.

It all depends on how quickly you want to get to Florida. Time your approach to city's along your route to avoid commute traffic. Drive three hours and have a snack and pit stop; (smell the flowers),switch drivers & enjoy the change of scenery. A small break from driving does wonders for everyone present in your rig. Leave early prior to sun-up on the first day and stop for supper and hang out at the camp site. Go for a walk, get your sleep and do the same thing the following day. Arrive fresh and relaxed at your Florida destination. You are able to drive 9.5 hrs at 60MPH with an average of 50MPH with pitt stops etc. This calculation will give you 480 miles on the first leg of you journey. From Cleveland to Fort Lauderdale is 1224 miles or 18 hours of driving at 50 MPH avg. Do the 9.5 hr per day and you will be basking in the Floridian vitamin C.

We have done all of the above times depending on where we are headed and time allowed. With our class C we can travel at leisure or push to get somewhere without stopping for more than a few minutes for breaks or fuel.

When traveling to a far destination we'll do 10-12 hour days, but ideal is 6 so we can stop and smell the roses a little. Often our vacation time doesn't allow for the ideal 6, though. One of the big things for us is that we both drive, so a 10 hour day is 5 hours a piece and we break it up based on who wants to drive and who DS wants to play games with. So each shift is only 2-3 hours on average.

We usually start driving about 10am, sometimes 11, have a short lunch and start looking for a campsite about 3pm, so we get to camp between 3 and 4pm. The mileage depends on the roads, not always interstates.

350 to 375 about all I my ears can handle. And my Copilot is wore out from all the instructions that she thinks i need.....!!!!! Have done 400 a couple of times but I like about 350 best.

When I was young, I used to drive as many miles per day as I could, focused on "getting there" with limited vacation time and not really enjoying the drive. The semi-harsh ride and often hot weather and rough highway surfaces frayed our my nerves and was tough on our little kids. It took me two days and lots of cigarettes to unwind and relax once we "got there". Over the years we learned to make R&R stops every 200 miles and plan ahead as to where we were going to park for the night. It's a pain to search for a place with vacancies at night when are dead tired and road weary. 300-360 miles per day is a good
average especially with restless little kids. I have learned to enjoy the scenery while driving in a relaxed, yet alert, manner. Have activity books, etc., for the kids to keep them occupied underway.

On a quest to maximize our vacation we do whatever it takes. Last summers big trip had us driving from Las Vegas to Portland, Oregon. It was about 1000mi. and took us 17hrs. We swore we wouldn't do it again. I imagine we would if we had to tho.
