How many hours a day do you drive?

Ive seen many people ask "how many miles do you think I can drive per day" and the answers are all over the place for a verity of reasons. So lets ask it a little differently:

When you travel with your Class A, about how many hours a day do you like to drive?

I limit the driving to 6 hrs or 300 miles a day. Can't be late for Happy Hour which usually starts no later than 4 p.m. :B

For most of my life I drove while on vacation all day 10 to 12 hours. Now it 300 miles an no more than 6 hours with breaks 2 hours or so. we have slowed down and relaxed. much better travel days now. it used to take me a day to recover from a days travels. My kind did not mind but it wore me out.
Thanks,

Sweet spot for our DP is 60-62 mph. For estimating I plan on 300-350 miles per day. six to eight hours driving a day. average for planning is fifty miles traveled per hour.

This is what I do as well. In my working days I could stretch to 500miles but it always worked out to an average of 50mph. Over the years I have tried to speed up to near the limits. EACH time I drove 70mph (in good weather) I blew a tire either because of garbage roads( Think I40 tween Little Rock and Memphis) or ambient heat ( Louisville KY after a 8hr run).
So I know I need to take it easy, but I am on a kinda hard schedule to get to Yellowstone. Once the cruise control has been repaired it shouldn't be so bad, it's freeway MOST of the way and if I can just get north of Casper in the alloted time I will be fine.
DW can drive and is quite good. I am a horrible passenger and will have to lock myself in the back bedroom so I don't get her nervous.
I'm such a worry wart because I am a plan for any contingency kind of guy. When it all goes south, I'm ready and not surprised. ๐Ÿ™‚

I used to do 10-11 hrs a day driving but now because of older age an poor health I limit it to 5-6 depending on the route and weather.

It depends on a lot of circumstances for everyone but as retired and constantly traveling full-timers we have stayed within 4-6 hours on the road, including misc. stops. Sometimes we'd only drive an hour or two, depending where we wanted to explore.

If we were traveling for a couple days in a row which was rare, we took turns for driving days so we could each concentrate on the scenery. This was very important for the summer on the Alaska trip.

We rarely drove interstates unless that was the only way from A to B but only for the shortest distance before getting off on another secondary road. To us, this was a very relaxing way of travel. We didn't want to pass up anything of interest. When retired there's no reason to put in long driving days. It keeps your blood pressure down!

Interesting to read about all the different driving styles.

We generally like to stay under 300 miles in a day, definitely not more than 400. We like to leave around 10:00-10:30, stop around 1:00 for lunch and continue driving until about 5:00 PM. Whatever the miles are, they are.

Also, I try my best not to arrive at dark which has happened maybe three times in 8 yrs. So, in the winter months, we'll be stopped at 4:00-4:30 PM.

We prefer to avoid rush hour (morning and evening) whenever possible.

I like to get set-up and start my cocktail at 5:30 or so..... and after the sun goes down (summer-time), I'll go out and clean the bugs off of windshield and the front of the motorhome.

This set-up, to me, is very relaxing.

Southern California is my favorite part of the USA although I do enjoy seeing where 'everybody else' lives and calls home (in the other 49 States).

Safe travels.

We may be on the road for six to seven hours, but actual driving time is never more than five hours. If we were to make a trip to Los Angeles, which is less than 400 miles, it would be a two day trip.

I will leave the night before and get 200 miles done. Then unlike a work day, hit the road at 5 am and drive till 9 for a breakfast stop tnen back on the road till lunch and then drive till 6-8pm. I can do this two days in a row so that is 6-700 miles plus the 200 for about 1600. Usually gets me where I am going. If I have to go further I will stop at 600 miles and about ten to 12 hours. I work to get my mph avg up to about 60 instead of the easy 50. Means less stops and cruise on at 65.

Two Jayhawks, you get the last laugh as it's only 600 miles to Colorado Spring for you... a easy one day trip.
Hey (or is it Aye?), I did give you credit for keeping the left coast further away which so far is not as sensitive as you.:B

*I've lost track of the number of times I've been across Kansas or Nebraska which is slightly more interesting[COLOR=].... sorry I cannot help myself.:( I do remember in KA having to mail in my speeding ticket while the officer watched back when the speed limit was 55... maybe that's the root of my problem???
