How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

I'm new here, and curious.

How many of us in Class C own Dodge B300 incomplete
cab/chassis based RV's? I know two others- Steve aka
Ripsaw, with a 1977 Brougham, and Leroy aka 1978_Dodge
_Delta who owns a 440V8 powered sharp looking 1978
Delta RV. I would like to ask, and offer, help, idea
swapping and comparing notes on our particular RV's
which are based on the Dodge B300 van chassis.

Yeah, I know. These are low tech, podgy old RV's that
would be considered "entry level" for folks like me,
but I have a deep and abiding respect for the quality
of these old "monsters of the open road". And anyone
wanting to pick brains, joke about, share notes or just
brag about our old A- Dodge-io's are certainly welcome
to PM or email me. Between all of us we can form a real
good support group, and help each other with problems
we know we'll encounter with an older vehicle.

Sure. I'd love a new RV. But I'd rather have an older
one already paid for, and a lotta great memories. Call
me frugal, an old hippie, or whatever you will. I'm proud
of my old land yacht.

Mopar Madness Manifest in the flesh,

Mark aka White Knight

P.S. Mine's a '72. Is there an older one out there someone's
motorvating in? Maybe even a Travco? W/K

Way to go, Eye! How do you like it? Comfy enough? And how did it do towing a trailer?

As far as Chiltons go, they ARE better than nothing. If I can't get a FSM, then I get both a Chiltons and a Haynes. Chiltons have better mechanical info, and the Haynes have wiring diagrams. The local libray usually has them, and a copy machine, so just go and photo-copy the info you need for next to free! :B

And it's still raining....

But, while we're talking about racing, this coming week-end at the Milwaukee Mile is some sort of aero-wars vintage stock car event, Sat and Sun. You know, the SuperBirds vs Daytonas vs Taledaga's, etc. Weather is looking to be perfect for it (mid 70's and sunny) and the photo op is too good to pass up! If you go, I'll be the drunken fool wearing a yellow 66 Charger shirt (after all, the 66 was the start of the aero-war cars, ya know!).

??? ......is that a race car in the background ? ... IF I were to have guessed where that shot was taken .... it would have been the old US 131 Drag Strip.

I've got a lot of things to work out with it yet... (like the water heater and furnace in the near future) but we took her out of the driveway to use it for what it was purchased for...

WEEEE!

Master BD,
No, I have been lucky. My father had factory service manuals for everything, including the Merc. I bought a Merc "body book" off eBay a couple years ago, though. For the stuff he bought used --quite a lot of it actually-- he had the old Motors Manuals, I use those, they cover the Buick 340, the Flattie, etc. For my Ford truck, I kinda guess. My Olds I bought an eBay factory manual for.

But Chilton's has to be better than guessing. But maybe not.....

Eric,
I just missed a 78 Clipper. Fellow selling said another fellow was coming at 3 to look at it, auction says it's sold. Yeah, I actually am heartbroken....
Maybe the "new" buyer will back out.

Hey Trish, while you're goofing around on the 'bay, have you been bidding on some of the rigs on there? A few SEEM pretty nice and the pricing is still good....

No tune-up this week-end. So much bloody rain that all I did was actually go into work! How's that for fun? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Good Chilton's manual on eBay, check it out.
I copped 3 [more] Motors manuals at Canfield yesterday, don't need it.

re: fuel tank regulators.
Summitt has 5 fewer of them now, not all mine, bought 3 off a friend's shopping list, and spent a TON on the Merc. I love the Canfield swap meet.

eyeteeth, what else about the oil pan gasket issue?

My buddy Bob (whose "home-built' 55 Chevys were so awesome they ended up on magazine covers) says to use TWO 2-ton jacks to lift the motor up.
Go easy, place stout wood (2x10s) on the motor mounts and you only need to move it a couple-three inches for access.

He also says have ALL your stuff (new gasket, sealer, extra screws, putty knives, short pry bar, tools) ready to go and do it one shot. Borrow or rent the jacks.

Okay, thanks, could be I am not looking in the correct area? I will look at the manifold again today to see if I can find additional numbers.

Blowing oil out onto the tire? I'm with Boondocker here. If the oil is blowing out rather then just leaking, I'd be worried that you have other issues like a cracked piston or something like that causing that much crank case pressure.

I have seen more than a few 440's with small HOLES blown through the top of pistons. HOW is that intake valley-pan gasket? ...on EVERY ONE of those ..... the pan was blown UP into the bottom of the intake.

OFF to check those exh man #'s !
