- ChgoWingerExplorerThanks again for the info and suggestions.
Once I got the one apart it was very obvious how the tension was set.
The passenger one was still snug and just needed the height adjustment set.
The drivers side had worn bushings. (It became noticable last season)
I was going to skip rebuilding it and just buy a supersteer version but I had purchased some New-Old-stock GM 266316 replacement bushings on ebay a bit ago for $15/Pair and figured I'd give them a try.
I knocked out the worn ones, pressed in the new ones and used a 1000 grit 3 arm brake cylinder hone to fit it. It turns smoothly and no more slop.
I have no doubt the Supersteer version are a nicer part and would last longer but the factory ones have been functioning well for me for many years until just recently. - BluegrassBillExplorerHenderson Super Steer Bell Crank ! With the proper tie rod fork tool its real easy.
- DSDP_DonExplorer"ChgoWinger".....I know this isn't what you asked, but here is a solution to tighten up the bell crank issues. SuperSteer
- DFordExplorerBack when I had a P-30 chassis, I ordered new parts from GM. When I put them together, there was about an 1/8" play - The pivot shaft just rattled around inside the bearing. I took the parts back and got my money back.
My best advice is to bite the bullet and buy the ball bearing replacements and eliminate the slop and play. In the long run, you'll be glad you did. - ChgoWingerExplorerEdit: Figured it out.

Loosen large lock nut torque cap to 25'Ibs .and then loosen 1/16 turn and tighten lock nut - wolfe10ExplorerYes, you can set end play (.001- .003")
But, if any side to side play in the bushing, it is NOT adjustable. Replace it. Left side takes a lot more stress than right side.
They can also fail by seizing (do not rotate smoothly). - ChgoWingerExplorer

Thank you. for that
End play spec is 000 to .003". Mine has more end play than that.
The end cap is on there pretty well. I am going to have to use a torch or something to get it loose as it is not budging with a 18" wrench.
I'm not sure, Is the lock nut the larger nut or the smaller end cap with the square knub on the end?
here is the quote from the manual....
If the end play exceeds.003 inch in either assembly, adjust it to
within 0 to .003 inch.

I am looking through the 99 manual to see if it is there.
I just ordered the drivers side one from Amazon (pretty much the same price)

I could not find the actual spec for adjustment..
Most folks say the stock bellcrank is pretty limited in adjustment so they are replacing with Henderson bellcranks..
Makarios Rv has them for $265 each..
I replaced my front springs, drivers bellcrank and drag link with hendersons products. Had it aligned to their specs and now the coach pretty much drives itself.
110% improvement..
Expensive but worth it in my opinion.
