How to re charge roof ac

VERY VERY VERY good chance that's not the problem.

When was the last time you cleaned the coils?

(If it started weak, then I'd suspect the charge).

Fact: one of my 13.5 amp air condioners (the 13,500 BTU one, the other one is 15000 BTU but still draws only 13.5 amps) Started tripping the 20 amp breaker that feeds it.. Meter confirmed breaker working properly.

Coils dirty.

Freeze issues are more common if your running your air conditioner on low setting rather than high .. if your air conditioning unit has freeze sensor you might double check and make sure it's positioned correctly. Also - your AC unit isn't going to put out much more than 20 degree difference (inflow vs outflow) so keep that in mind.

Freon 22. If you have an ESC and the unit has a leak, the ESC will replace the complete upper unit. Doug

I have replaced a few roof AC units. Find a good deal on a new scatch -n- dent and install it. I installed one I bought from Adventurerv.net on my wife's grooming van and it works perfectly and has for a couple of years now.

My neighbor who owns a HVAC company, fixed the A/C on our old trailer. He put Nitrogen in it and found a crack at one of the lines going to the condenser. He cut the line and put in a fill valve, put nitrogen into it and found a crack in one of the lines that goes to the condenser. He blazed it, vacuumed it and then recharged it. Worked great even when we traded it in 2 years later. Took him a little over an hour. Very easy. I could've done it, but he had the tools and the R22.

All it cost me was a case of beer!

I am unsure whether some RV shops have the skills to recharge a system that isn't designed for recharge - and I doubt it would be cost effective at any rate.

You should consider cleaning the evaporator and condenser coils as well as the air filter just to make sure you getting maximum efficiency. There are a number of threads discussing how to access and clean the evaporator coils - use the search forum search engine.

How old is it? I would try to live with it or get a new one.

I'm with "Golden HVAC". Unless you have a friend that does A/C work for free, you'll waste more money than you save!
