how to setup on-board air

I have a Diesel pusher with air bags and air brakes (see signature below).

How and where do I tie into the on-board air system to setup an air chuck for inflating tires ??

Can I "T" off of any 1/4" line I can find or is there a proper way to do it ??

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

  • In the front of our coach is a multi-port fitting all either 1/8" or 1/4" pipe, many of them plugged. 1 port feeds the air horns and 1 is the incoming air pressure. First you have to bleed of all air them remove one of the plugs. I used a 45* into a small 1/4 turn valve and then put a regular quick connect air fitting just like in my shop. I got a 50ft hose and I can reach all my tires. Most of the time you have to bleed off some air to get the compressor to kick in so I carry a air gun (handy for cleaning things also) that quick connects along with my tire filler assembly. Don't forget to use Teflon tape or some pipe joint dope on the pipe threads.
  • I put in a compressor system from Airbagit.com on my gasser and ran a 1/4" line back to my utility bay where I added a 50' air-hose reel from Lowes. I use it all the time for RV and bike tires, the air bags and stuff around the yard/house since the RV is stored in our driveway. Every RV should have some kind of compressor, built-in or portable. You never know when you'll need it on a trip.

You should have a air line up front for putting air into the coach when towed. Put a quick connect on it and buy a hose long enough to reach all the tires.

any chance you have a picture with the location of one of these ?
Just wondering exactly what to look for.

Depends on the coach builder. And you may have to install your own, as not all coach builders provided for them. It may be a quick connect for a hose, or a turn valve and hose connection. Mine is hard plumbed in the Fuel/Propane bay.
  • My DP is on a Freightliner Custom Chassis.... there is a multi port block on the firewall, up high, almost hidden by a bundle of "stuff"...with extra 1/4" pipe thread ports available... that is where I tapped in for my air connection.....

Go to this link and let the pdf document download
    Freightliner Know Your Chassis

then look at page 32 and you'll have a picture of your air manifold. The one on my 2000 model looks just like that picture.

  • thank you for all the info !
I didn't find an air chuck on mine like the video link had but did find a manifold like the FCC manual showed.

It is an 8 plug manifold. Black supply line coming in and a yellow parking brake line going out.... 6 ports to choose from.
Time to plumb me up an air hose.
