We have hurricane Florence on the way with 140 mph winds. Is it recommended to put the jacks down or keep the up?

Thanks for any help from someone who has road one of the out.

Anything in the path of 140 mph will be shredded to pieces. LEAVE NOW!
Your S&B may be gone or flooded. Like everyone else said.

That's gotta be a joke. Jacksonville, Nc. is going to be lucky to have five buildings standing after this. I believe mandatory evacuation orders have already been issued.

If it's not a joke, MOVE OUT NOW!

I live in FL. To answer the question, I always brought the jacks up and slides in, during bad storms or if high winds predicted. I rather have the rv rock on the frame suspension and tires then rock with the jacks down and the jacks being pounded with the rocking motion.

Don't know your personal reasons why you can't leave, not for me to know, but with a Cat 4 coming in.... I would be GONE. We had mandatory evacuation here in my park with Irma last year, but I already had my reservations in GA, 2 weeks prior. Gas and sites were hard to get. Never saw anything like it in the 63 years I have lived in FL.. Central Gulf side.

Good Luck to you and your family. May God bless you and yours and keep you safe.

I live in my 5th wheel too. But I am in MA and the RV is in NC. Can't do anything now. What does one do if it is destroyed? I have it anchored down with straps, but that would not be enough against this monster. Worried about wind, not water, as it is high.

Those who have a choice and stay have never seen an area hard hit. Imagine a coastline where there is nothing but some cement foundations and stubs of live oaks that have weathered storms for a hundred years. That is all for 3-4 blocks back from coastline. Imagine seeing refrigerators floated 6 miles or so from coastline and then only stopped by interstate highway . Imagine seeing large shrimp boats sitting out on land miles from coast. Imagine seeing casinos on barges picked up and deposited a quarter mile from water. Storm surge real storm surge is deadly. Then the wind carries missles like pine cones not to mention propane tanks etc. Given the choice get out.

Move west NOW.....this is going to be a nasty storm. It's over 300 miles wide already. They (NHC) are predicting a CAT4 at landfall.

Moving it west to a safe location is your best bet. They're predicting huge amounts of water with this storm. If it doesn't get ripped up, it'll get beat up with flying debris. Move it ASAP. If you feel the need to go back home, go for it. If anything happens to your home and you're FORCED to leave, you'll have a comfy dry place in your rig. I don't like to tempt Mother Nature.....Dennis

As a reference, when they talk about the winds of a hurricane, they are talking about the winds at 30 above ground level. In other words, other homes, trees, etc, all affect the surface winds which are always much lower than the winds 30 feet up. Of course if you live on the top of a hill, with no trees or other homes around you, you are going to experience higher winds speeds than a neighborhood may receive.
As a contractor, I built my current stick house to withstand Cat 5 winds at ground level, which is next to impossible to attain. By the same token, tornado winds, which often come with a hurricane, can bring high winds at ground level.
Flooding is always a problem from storm surge but depending on the drainage of your area, heavy rains can also cause flooding.
Jacksonville, NC is not very far inland, and may very well experience flooding in the low lying areas, so I would make good decisions on what is the best for you and your loved ones.

Secure the house and LEAVE! Floods, wind, trees. Get the H outta Dodge. West or South. Check the anticipated cone. Ya have three days. Use 'em!

I would be moving the RV out of harms way and then, if I really felt like riding out a cat 4 hurricane, I would go back home in my toad or tow vehicle. You will have a much better chance of having a place to live if you separate the RV from your house and bring it home afterwards to live in if need be.

The house I used to own in the Keys had the roof torn off last year and I'm pretty sure that was only a cat 3.
