Hurricane roof ladder weight limit question

We are in the process of purchasing a Four Winds Hurricane. When speaking to the owner he mentioned that the rooftop ladder only has a weight capacity of 150 lbs. Does that sound right? I can't imagine that roofladder would be functional for even checking the condition of the roof. I don't know very many people that would have the skills to inspect a roof that wight less than 150 lbs.

  • My coach has a decal on the roof by the ladder that says "Do not exceed 150 lb on roof while moving."

They don't want you putting a bunch of stuff up there that will bounce around and wreck the roof while you are moving.

Mine does not say anything about the weight of the person using the ladder.
  • The 150 is carry weight not person weight. Many use the ladders for bikes lawn chairs, even big ladders, etc. Something bouncing around at speed is not the same as weight when the rig is stopped.

  • Great thanks for the replies. I thought that sounded a little odd.

  • I'm 230 and the ladder creaks and moans every time I go up it, but holds me. I would not suggest you attach anything heavy to it such as bicycles.
  • I think most roof ladders will handle up to 300 lbs. I'm at 205 and I have used our ladder for 15 years now. Last year I had to rebuild it as some of the fittings were loose or cracked.

Doesn't sound right. My Ace has a sticker on the ladder that says 300lbs.
