I 16

My brother in-law says that I 16 from Atlanta to Savanna is a very rough highway, and I should not take it, Has any one else take this route, is there any other opinion
  • It is pretty rough but they've been doing work on it for last several years. They are actually digging up concrete for the whole right lane and repouring.

My daughter just finished 4 years of college at Georgia Southern near Savannah and now my son is there. Daughter was in marching band first 2 years. Between weekend stays for visits, orientations, football games, etc. plus trips to Savannah and Hilton Head, I've probably taken MH and previous 5'er down I16 30+ trips. Right now big issue is the closing of 1 lane for construction for several miles can cause traffic build-up.

I've personally not had any issues.
  • I live in Hinesville Georgia, and have traveed I-6 numerus of times wihout any incidents, I-16 is eazy to drive not much traffic after passing Macon. I-16 ends at down town Savannah, I woulld get off at I-95 travel a few miles to Rchmonhill there is a KOA next to I-95
  • Last time I checked, I-16 does not go from Atlanta to Savannah, but from Macon to Savannah. I have a friend that travels 1-16 from the Hwy441 interchange to Savannah regularly and she said it is fine, just a little "bumpy" like all the old concrete interstates. I have traveled it myself, though not recently, and do not remember any particular problems and the only real "traffic" was near Macon and near Savannah.
  • Yes, it is bumpy in sections, but not enough to make me want to look for alternate routes. I've seen a lot worse.

We traveled to Atlanta and return using I-16 between Savannah and Macon a few days after Christmas. In my opinion, you'll be fine traveling on I-16.
