Mine wouldn't work and I was told to use WD-40 in all the moving parts. It has worked like a charm since.
Kwikee makes a lubricant, spray on white lithium also works well. WD40, silicone, and other cleaners/lubricates that dry out are useless over the long term, your steps will eventually need repair if you continue using it.
