Thanks Busskipper, right now I am towing Jeep Rubicon Unlimited, which my wife is not happy with She has a Lexus ES300. Keeps telling me the jeep is not like her Lexus. I keep telling it never will be, Totally different class of car. Maybe her next car can be GX470 class if we can tow it. Will have to keep an eye on this post. Thanks for your information
My DW would like to tow her LS430 - but it is not much Off Road :B The GX470 has had great off road reviews and the ride is that of a Lexus so it might make the cut. She had little issue with the MDX, as it had a great ride, just left a lot to be desired when you went off road in Colorado, now with 300,000 miles it is at it's end of a dependable life (although I still drive it every day)
Need to keep the Co-Pilot happy if you want to do any real traveling.
Hoping to hear from an owner - as I know they are good to go, just would love to get first had thumbs up.
Merry Christmas and Safe travels,

No one that I have spoken to use any type of Remco product. Also, keep in mind Remco is in the business of selling disconnects.
Remco Industries sold their drive shaft disconnect business several years ago. Their primary products are hydraulic and water pumps. It might be worth a call to them to see what the basis of their disconnect requirement for the GX470 is, but I believe they get their transmission info from a third party and may not have the specifics. - BusskipperExplorer

Mr. Bill,
In the 100,000 miles that we have driven in two motothomes, I may have seen a GX towed once. I'm a car-nut and I always look to see what people are towing. The GX470 is a rare tow.
The weirdest thing I've seen is a coach towing a helicopter on a trailer. The blades were folded in.
Good luck and Merry Christmas,
MM.
Thanks, Merry Christmas back to you - yes they are rare but they ride oh so well........;
Found this on line;
Have towed my '07 GX470 over 20,000 miles without any issues. Like you, I bought it for towing purposes. Transfer case-neutral; transmission-park; key in & all the way left.
They also do well off road,
Think one will be my next Toad.
Merry Christmas to All.

Had zeroed in on a Jeep Commander to replace my MDX, then read about a few people using GX470's with good results, just checking to see what you all think? (Just those who actually tow one)
Meets my needs for Good off road - Comfortable - Seats 7.
Thanks,
Must be too close to Christmas - everyone is out getting Presents for the kids.
Just trying to find a LIVE GX470 toad owner.
Googled these;
We have been towing a 2003 Lexus LX470 for over a year now with no issues (4,000+ miles). The car is in Park, 4 Wheel Drive position lever is in "N" and key is in ignition and turned to ACC so that steering wheel is unlocked and power is on to cigarette lighter (we use RVibrake for brake assist powered from cigarette lighter).
Blue Ox Base Plate
My GX is an 06. The two that were in the rv park that are being towed last night are 09's. My opinion based on my experience and that of others towing is that a GX470 is a great tow vehicle. However, I believe all GX's from 03-09 have the same drive train. No one that I have spoken to use any type of Remco product. Also, keep in mind Remco is in the business of selling disconnects.
I have spoke to several people that have towed this model 50-60,000 miles without failure. I also know of at least two Lexus dealers that tow the GX470, although I have not spoke with them. I am willing to accept the risk in return for the more roomy interior over a Jeep. My guess is that Toyota/Lexus is being overly conservative with an eye toward reducing warranty cost by making a blanket statement that they cannot be towed.
Happy Holidays,
HELP - no one towing????????????????? - BusskipperExplorer

Happy Holidays, - Tiger02ExplorerI believe if it has the manual xfer case (as opposed to the electrical solenoid) it is possible (2005 and earlier). Toyota will always say no. They are nice vehicles, and I almost bought one based on them being a rebadged Toyota Prado. I've used a few in northern Iraq, and they are pretty tough with their 4WD system being top notch.
Went with an old Jeep Cherokee XJ for any possible future Class A plans.
