- Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIRandomly pulling into a strange station can lead to.....heck never mind. Do as you please and so will I.

Thanks for implying that I don't know how to drive an RV. After 20+ years of fulltiming (truly, traveling and no home base) and over 300,000 miles of driving I'm pretty sure I know how to drive. However, pulling off at a random exit because Gas Buddy says that exit has cheap gas will not ensure that you find a gas station your RV will be able to easily maneuver in and out of.
I am on a time schedule as I travel on business and getting from point A to point B as quickly as possible is top priority. Using truck stops to save time, and possible frustration, is well worth it to us.
Let me think, who said they might gouge the side of their RV?? If you worry about that you can't drive. 25 years patrol no accidents, 750K in 75ft commercial, no accidents. Crew cab with 35ft trailer 3/4 time 5 years, no accidents. If you can drive there is no worry about gouging something driving in a fuel stop. Sorry you have to work and are in the fast lane, did that, now it's time to slow down and enjoy what I made in the fast lane. - Bill_SatelliteExplorer III have paid whatever I needed to pay to stop at truck stop to fuel. It does not "sting", it's just my reality. I have paid those high prices without a 2nd thought and now having the TSD option is just a savings that moved me form 1 TS to another for some free money.
If it's not right for you, that's completely OK. It works perfectly well for me and I am very happy to have this as my new normal. - Ro_n_JoeExplorer IIThe TSD card is a great offering to RVers and I will continue using it at Loves whenever possible. Love the ease of getting in and out, the price after the discount is good vs competition and like the idea of buying fresh fuel.
When more RVers get the card, the buying power for TSD only gets better which will in turn continue to benefit us. - RiceExplorer III

If you're going to be using the major brand truck stops no matter what, then the TSD discount is a no-brainer, although it must sting to know that you've been sometimes paying $1 extra a gallon for the privilege because they are happy to gouge RVers by not offering them the same discount they offer truckers.
And likewise, pulling off at a random exit because Gas Buddy shows good diesel prices there, without knowing anything about the stations, is a terrible idea. I'm a very skilled driver, but I never want to mix it up with regular people filling in a gas station if I can help it, and I sure as hell don't want to go driving around neighborhoods in search of an accessible station.
We've been fulltiming for 16 years now (also "truly, traveling and no home base"), and over the years I've built up a really good map of fueling locations that are either independent (i.e., not Love's, etc.) truck stops, or gas stations that have truck pumps that are easily accessible in my motorhome + toad. When driving, I make a note every time I see a station with truck pumps that I didn't already know about, and add it to my database. Then I can use Gas Buddy to check the price at that station that I know is accessible next time I'm going by there.
It's also possible to scout places using satellite images and street views, so not being local doesn't make it impossible to find alternative fueling locations, although it's not as "easy" as just pulling into Love's.
There are lots of them out there, and I've avoided using Love's and the like for years, if I have an alternative.
But if you don't want to actually or virtually scout, with the TSD discount, you can at least know that you're no longer being gouged by paying the price on the sign that you've previously been paying, which appears to be only for suckers. - Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIThanks for implying that I don't know how to drive an RV. Please, don't plan! Don't take advantage of something that might save you money! No one cares! See what it costs you when you try to pull into a regular gas station and put a groove in the side of your RV. It's all about choices. No one is saying you have to make this choice but this choice is a good one for most RVers with diesel RV's.
If you can drive that RV it's not an issue, those that can't maybe a problem. That's why they really need to do RV road tests with what ever you use for an RV. I think we would see a long list of for sales when they can't pass the drivers test.
I rarely use truck stops but did apply for a card. I'll compare it to gas buddy and see which saves. I really don't like being cut off at $75 on the debit card when I take on 100 gallons. Easier to pay cash and some stations give cash discounts. - BobGedExplorerThe original discount program TSD had with PFJ was just 5ยข per gallon. A couple of months ago they renegotiated a new discount program that is a big improvement but still not as good as Love's.
Here are a few rough PFJ discount details:
Minimum 0.0500
Maximum 1.0809*
Median 0.3561
Average 0.3782
*Maximum discount >$1.00 shows at the following locations:
774 Snowville UT 3.5590 2.5559 1.0031
760 Cokeville WY 3.5590 2.5192 1.0398
141 Evanston WY 3.5590 2.4781 1.0809
761 Evanston WY 3.5590 2.4781 1.0809 - Bill_SatelliteExplorer IISince we travel full time and have no home location to return to, we can't "scout out" stations along our travels. Coming into a new town and trying to search out a station is not at all practical so truck stops are our only logical choice and this saves us a ton of money.
It's best benefits are found at Love's and Petro. The Flying J discount is about the same as the Good Sam discount so not worth the trouble. Some of the other major truck stops are included but have minimal discounts. - RiceExplorer III

It's an excellent choice for RVers with diesel RVs who are buying their diesel at places like Love's with inflated diesel prices. But the major-name truck stops aren't the only places accessible by big RVs. I noticed the high diesel prices at places like Love's a while back, and started seeking out other stations with accessible truck pumps, and almost never end up at Love's or Pilot or whatever.
