Greetings,2nd outing this weekend uncovered a few problems.The rear end of our 2006 26' class C Winnebago Outlook seems to nearly hit the ground if I go over any large humps, like those entering and existing some gas stations. I have the air bags at 80 psi (max is 100 psi but concerned setting anything to max levels). I was loaded with fresh water which I suspect didn't help. I pull a small, ( < 1000 lb Rzr trailer), and the tongue jack sand pad hit the road and is destroyed. Other than switching from a A-frame jack to a side mounted flip jack to increase my trailer tongue clearance what are my options? Kurt

Common problem. Side mount jack is the answer as long as nothing else hits.

Another option with the A frame jack is one that has a removable wheel or base plate, which might give you the extra clearance you need, although a side mount swing up jack will naturally give you the most clearance.

Hit the humps at an angle if possible, that will give you some additional clearance typically. Welcome to the Class_C world, pretty common!

I destroyed my aframe jack on small trailer. I found one on etrailer (I think) that has more of the jack above the trailer frame and less hangs down below it. It is very significant difference, and other parts of front trailer hang lower. If that doesn't work, flip jack is next.

If it's a Dexter Torflex you can also replace the axle with a different start angle on the spindle. My trailer sits very low which makes easier loading with my ramps but I have been considering replacing with a different start angle to raise the trailer. Would be good to time it when it needs new brakes and hubs. After over 200,000 miles I think my axle is not straight anymore as it's wearing tires on the inside with no overloading so I might have to replace it anyway. Local place that works on axles told me that the Torflex axles tend to do that when loaded close to maximum over many miles.

I wonder about bigger wheels and/or flipping the axles. It might require a decent welder, but it would add a couple inches, which can be the difference between carving ruts in the ground and not. Not cheap, but cheaper than a new quad trailer.

Is there any way of mounting and using an equalizer hitch setup on your Outlook/Rzr combination? You might want to check with some expert installation shops to find out if one is available.

The purpose of an equalizer hitch is to prevent sagging of the rear end of the towing vehicle. It's fascinating and simple how it does this - but it does indeed work. Equalizer hitch models may not be available for your Outlook, however.

I welded one of these http://www.etrailer.com/Motorhome-Accessories/Ultra-Fab-Products/UF48-979021.html to the bottom front side of my drop hitch. It hits 1/4" before bottom of hitch does. Still drags but doesn't tear up the bottom of my hitch or put in quite as much as a divot anymore.

I tow a trailer 7000 lb. rated trailer. I added a weight distribution hitch, after towing it a couple of times. It is also a anti sway hitch, the spring bars lay on brake type pads, and now the pads are coming loose, unglued.

I tow mine a little nose up also..single axle trailer. Seems like the lesser of evils. I guess it depends on what you want to scrape..and i'd rather scrape the rear of the cheap trailer than hit the hitch. I'm not doing the wheels because they appear to reduce the clearance. Don't like the idea of lifting the back of RV via the flimsy hitch. One thing else you may want to check out is flipping the axle.

I'm using a 2 inch drop hitch which gives my Rzr trailer about a 5' nose up attitude. Would raising it help, I thought the trailer shoUld set level as possible? Do hitch mounted swivel skid wheels work or will I trash my hitch?

One thing I learned from experience with my trailer is if I were doing it over I'd get a trailer with bigger wheels and the frame ride height higher. It wouldn't need as much hitch drop and it would have more clearance. Rear overhang of the class C can drive the front of these low trailers into the ground in certain conditions.

I've made do with careful driving and raised jack. Tip for others try to find trailer which only needs a few inches of hitch drop, not 8 or 12 inches.

I wonder if a skid wheel might help. It will lower clearance, but when the hitch bounces on the ground, the wheel will help greatly mitigate any damage.

Find out what your MH is rated to tow and stay within that number. Many ore nearly overloaded just from moving your personal stuff in. If your poor ground clearance is a result of a long overhang there really isn't much you can do about it short of totally rebuilding the rear suspension.
