Exactly correct. Any product with petroleum distillates in it is bad for rubber. 303 Aerospace is great stuff, as would be any product specifically made for seal lubrication. WD-40 and similar sprays are great on METAL but not on rubber, vinyl, wood, plastic or other similar materials.
Just follow the manufacturer's recommendation - not necessarily the installer's.
Many people still believe that WD-40 is made from fish oil. It is not, and never has been.
