I was under the impression S&T (the subject of the post) was primarily a trip planning program, and not a navigation program. If Google's WAZE doesn't do trip planning, how is it a valid alternative to S&T?
i was offering an alternative to GPS' and software that is for all intensive purposes DEAD / End of Life.
S&T - love it as i may could be made into a navigation software when you added a gps antenna (although that wasn't its intention).
S&T was great in its day - lots of users created & shared POI files...but theyre disappearing as will the construction data updates & map updates.
even google maps (on-line, obviously) allows trip planning (multi pin placement) - but its not nav software per se, garmin also had a trip planning program (it sucks too, just like rand's)
smartphone software (and imbedded gps') has advanced enough that a GPS has marginal value now (you still have to update the GPS, which is a PIA & takes forever), its rare not to have a cell connection (even a slow EDGE one is adequate for navigation).
