Mini Cooper automatic

I've seen a number of RVrs write about towing their MANUAL Mini Cooper 4 down.
Does anyone tow an automatic mini with a dolly?
Any issues?

  • HHR :)
Great ride, 4 down towing of automatic, seats 4 comfortably, and you can drop the driver's seat and rear passenger seat and haul 8' lumber in it :)

    X2??
  • somewhat off track, but the scariest thing to me in this thread is...
Since Fiat bought Chrysler, they now own Jeep...

  • Read a ton of different forums and all info I could find on towing a mini. You cannot tow a automatic transmission mini four down. You can tow it on a Dolly and we did tow our base model on a Dolly with no problems. Many folks tow their mini with Manuel transmission four down. The awd mini cannot be towed on a dolly OR four down, it must be transported on a trailer/flatbed. No one I read about had experienced damage in those configurations. A few who tried to tow automatics four down did have damage.
  • Find this interesting, been thinking about the manual gear box model for a toad, can not seem to find any info, would consider the auto if 4 down works too.
Other wise thought about the Fiat mini what ever it is, but feel the Fiat line is still junk, any ideas if they ever improved their reputation.
Been towing a F150 5 speed manual, X-Ford Escort, X-VW X-4 speed Rabbit Diesel, X-Honda Element and Honda CRV. Thinking smaller, lighter.

  • I had a dealer tell me that if you tow it on a dolly, you take a chance of breaking the rear suspension because the angle of attack is wrong. They also said it shifts more weight on the rear end. I have read of broken suspension, but not from towing.

Since then I talked to a different dealer that said towing on a dolly was fine.
