Mods done at dealership

We are looking at an Itaska 27n with a dinnete but want the couch option. The dealer said he could swap it out. Another dealer said not to do it, not the same as factory installed. If we go with the swap we get the coach now versus 8-10 weeks. The one he has is loaded and about the same price price as a special order.
Thanks
Mike
  • As said, it should be a very simple swap out. However if for some reason you are not comfortable with the dealer I would move on. If you special order one exactly like you want from the dealer you trust you will have it by May. You should also be able to get a better price on an ordered coach since the dealership is not doing to have to carry any interest on it. You could more then likely get 30% off window sticker price. A new coach is a lot of money so you need to be sure that it is exactly the coach that you want. Good luck.

Swapping a dinette for a couch is a pretty simple thing to do. Literally unbolts, sofa bolted in it's place. The space is the same size by design. It's actually easier than doing the inverse where the dinette is more open you can see where some attachment holes were etc. I would have no issue having the dealer do it. If you've ever seen the way they are slapped together at the factory you might actually appreciate a dealer taking a little more time. That said, if a particular dealer has had issues in the past, then wait the 8 weeks and get it made that way. What's 8 weeks in the off season if that's the way you want it?
  • Not going to hide any bones here. The dealer that wants to do the work is Mike Thompsons in Fountain Valley, Ca.If you goggle them you will see my concern
  • Mike,
This is one of those things that, it would be nice to see some previous work that has been done by the same "craftsmen" that will be doing the work on your intended coach. It's like getting an estimate from a construction contractor. You'd like to see what kind of work that contractor has done in the past and, if possible, talk with some folks that have employed that contractor.

So, in this case, if you possibly can see previous work, and it appears to be good quality work, then that will help you make that decision to go ahead with the deal and modifications. But, if on the other hand, the dealer cannot provide any examples of previous work done by the techs that would be doing yours, then that might make the decision a bit harder.

It's always nice to see work that's been done and you can evaluate it. Good luck,
    Scott
  • One dealer is working harder for your business than the other dealer.
Get it configured the way you want it and the way that will work best for you...
