most recomended grease for motor home

I have a 2004 Southwind 37C with 8.1 litre engine. I like to change the oil and greasing the steering and drive shaft U joints about every 3000 miles. I read some months back that a certain grease was most recomended for the drive shaft U joints. I would like the best if I can get it since I do try to take good care of my MH Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

  • Nothing personal, but if you plan to keep the coach more than a few years, don't bother looking for the manufacture's specifications.

The intent of the OE specification is to get it through the warranty period. If you want it to last, get the good stuff. At this time I know of only two.

    Caterpillar Desert Gold
    Valvoline Syn-Power
Both are blended with Moly (Molybdenum Disulfide) and will permanently stain anything you didn't want to get it on.

I have a piece of equipment that is know to overload one critical bearing. If you re-grease it ever 1~2 hours, you might get it to 25 before you have to replace that bearing, unless you use one of the above greases. I am now at 100+ hours and have lost count. (I still keep the back-up parts on hand.)

  • William,

Look in your Workhorse manual for the mil-specs they recommend.

Find a grease that meets those specs, and preferably is available nationally.

Unless you are in extreme cold conditions or something else very unusual, you don't need any exotic greases.
