Mystery antenna

I was up on the roof the other day and noticed there's a rubber automotive style radio antenna on the roof above the kitchen area. As far as I know the only radio the rig has ever had in it is the one in the van cab...ok well the outdoor radio, but that's on the opposite side. Is it possible they ran the antenna all the way across and up on this thing? That seems oddly inefficient since it's probably a shorter run to tie into the van antenna. Any ideas?
  • We have two of those small rubber antennae - one for the in-dash radio and one for the entertainment area radio/CD/DVD player.
  • We have an extra antenna near the refrigerator vent too. I thought maybe it was for the weather radio in the cab--that might need a separate antenna? We also had an outdoor radio but it was broken and I have never replaced it. I doubt that it is for an old mobile phone in a 2003 model.
  • No phone mount. I still have my old bag phone installed in my first car, a 68 Beetle. Just couldn't bring myself to remove it when I drug it out of the barn after all these years. I don't miss the $0.20 per minute phone calls.
  • I found the same thing on my first used 1997 MH.

It is the antenna for the mobile phone they had back then!!!

Look under your front seat you most likely will find the rest of the electronic baggage that was needed to run those bag phones! :W

When they permanently installed them in a MH they ran the antenna outside and stuffed the guts and all the wires and cords to it bolted to the floor usually under the seat. And then mounted the phone on the dash.

Do you have one of these on the dash?
  • I scoured the coach and couldn't find anything that would suggest a 3rd radio anywhere. I'd love to have one but I don't wanna deal with running all that wiring so we just use the tv as a radio. I'd use the van radio but I can't find any confirmation that shore power will charge anything but the house batteries and a dead battery is not something I want to deal with.
  • quite possibly that antenna would serve an optional coach radio and the external radio similtaneously. The inside radio is probably optional but to install an antenna after the fact would be difficult.
