Need HWH Help

Finally arrived at camp site to meet DW who had come up earlier, discovered the HWH system not working properly. Motor spins normal, high whine, not grinding, but slide only moves very very slowly, jacks only came out about 2". DW said she had no problem retracting slides at the house. And we had no problem with slides or jacks last weekend camping. What do you recommend I check or adjust first? Is this a known issue? I will get some fluid and top it off, but dont think thats what it is, it was fine a few hours ago. Oh the joys of a motor home... Thanks in advance!
  • I posted this, as follow up we had our problem while camping over a weekend so I couldn't call HWH, they are closed on weekends. BTW - when you do call them all they do is take your name and a service tech will call you back. For me the tech called a week later. The techs are very helpful just not enough of them. He apoligized, said they'd been really busy. FYI - once home while waiting for tech to call back I diagnosed my problem from the online HWH service manual to be either the shuttle valve or the pump. So I took a chance and ordered a $70 shuttle valve, thankfully that was it, all works fine again.

BTW - the bit in the HWH owners manual about using the fluid cap as the socket wrench to let the pressure off of the solenoid valves is crap. The plastic cap stripped out immediately. My son brought my tools up so I could get the slides in and limp home. I have now bought a tiny ratchet with a 1/4" socket and keep it in my owners bag in the rig in case we ever have a problem on the road again. The 4 large solenoid valves are for the jacks. Mine has 6 small ones vlaves for the 3 slides. I could not figure out which valve was which so I just released the pressure on all 6.
  • Do you have the HWH Manuals and trouble shooting guide for your system? You can find them on-line at the HWH Website and download them. They should help you.
  • I would call HWH direct and see what they have to say (they are the experts).
  • I posted this, more detail, we operated the jacks and slides separately, jacks first then slides, neither exteneded very much, and very very slow. Can anyone recommend a HWH on-site mobile RV service in the Lake Lanier, GA area?
  • DO NOT top off the fluid unless the slides and jacks are fully retracted!

You should see fluid on the dipstick attached to the cap on the fluid reservoir. If you can see it, there should be enough to fully extend the jacks.

When the motor is operating, and you hear the whine, does the whine change pitch (ie go higher or lower) when the slides or jacks stop moving. If higher, there is likely a fluid problem or something is allowing the pump motor to run without a load. I would doubt this if both slides and jacks are affected. If if the pitch is lower, something is stopping the movement but you do have hydraulic pressure.

Do you extend jacks first and level then extend the slides? That is the sequence in ours.
  • I believe there is a pin in the drive gear, That is where I would start
