New Motorhome shopping

All,

After 10 years in our truck camper, my wife & I agree we're
ready for some more room.

After alot of searching, we have our eye on 3 rigs

Itasca Sunstar 28N OR Winnebago Vista 27N
Fleetwood Storm 28F
Thor A.C.E. 27.1

On you tube I found an excellent Winnebago factory tour video
As well as one from Thor.

A while ago I saw one for Fleetwood but now I can't seem to find it.

I believe there was a link on a dealer website but, I have been to
so many dealer websites I'm getting dizzy.

Does anyone Know where I can find this Fleetwood factory tour video ??

  • Mack, I don't know about the video but, Fleetwood was making smaller coaches (31' and less) at there plant in Chico, California. Don't know if the Chico plant is still in operation after Fleetwood filed for Chapter 11?
  • either winnebago will have a fiberglass roof. do the others you are considering?

  • I’m unfamiliar with the Fleetwood but I owned a Thor ACE 27.1 for 3 months. Took a loss and traded it in on a Winnebago Vista 27N. Not happy about loosing the money but very glad to be rid of the ACE. I guess that gives you an idea of what I think of its quality

The Winnebago has much more storage, larger closets, and more kitchen cabinets and drawers sized to be fully useful. The Winnebago tracks quietly down the road; no wandering and wallowing side to side, or jarring bounces over bumps. There is no comparison between the quality. With the ACE I had multiple water leaks, trim pulling off the body, one pocket door pulled off the rollers and jammed blocking the bedroom, and those are just the high points. If you are go through an ACE just for fun try out the throne. Unless you're over 6 feet, your toes will barely touch the floor.

According to the specs on Thor’s website and owners’ manual the ACE has a “Crown Roof w/ Exterior TPO Membrane”. The Winnebago and Itasca have fiberglass.

I own 2 Aces – a 29.1 and a 29.2. I like them both. Admittedly fit and finish is not a good as the Winnie, but the Ace can be had for $20k less if not more, innovation is better on the thor product (electric bunk, mud room, laptop desk etc etc. I have not had such issues as others have mentioned with ride quality, leaks or storage. I am still on the fence about fiberglass vs TPO roof. Either can leak at the seams, fiberglass can crack and it’s more expensive to repair. Winnie makes a nice coach – no argument there, but Winnie is also a higher price point and negotiations are tough to get them to come down. You can get an Ace in the $60’s. Thor customer service is top notch. Can’t speak for Winnie. Ours rides very smoothly and handles well. I have heard complaints about some of the Vista handling due to shorter wheelbase.

    FWIW, we love ours.

finally time sort of disproves that.

  • From the Thor website:

    Vacu-Bond™ Laminated Roof

    Vacu-Bond™ Laminated Walls

    Vacu-Bond™ Laminated Floor

We still like ours, and aside from the height of the toilet issue, have no complaints. We know the price point makes it an entry level MH and we're OK with that.

We're off on our next adventure!
