New or Used with Warranty?

So my wife and I are planning on buying a Class A gas coach and looking at models under 35'. We are going full time and planning to put about 30k miles on the coach in the first year. We don't know if its worth spending the premium to buy a new coach and get the warranty OR go slightly used and let someone else take the depreciation and then get a warranty through a third party.

Our concern here is that with friends of ours who are on the road full time, there seem to be quite a few issues that come up and having a new coach lets you pull into a dealership and get those resolved under warranty. However, with used we get a better deal and hopefully some of the bugs have already been worked out - however we don't know how good the third party warranty companies really are.

I'm very handy and can repair a lot of things but wont have too much room for tools on the road. Also new/used RV's are all within budget, its just a matter of what is the better choice. Thanks!
  • Your BEST money bet is to buy used as you pointed out about depreciation. There is no such thing as a "used" warranty. What you mean is purchasing an Extended SERVICE Contract(ESC). As with all ESC's you MUST, read ALL the items covered and NOT covered and understand what is and is NOT. ALL policies have different coverages. That is why you will see prices vary widely. IF fulltiming, I would buy an ESC. The odds are when using the RV that much, your ESC will probably be a good bet. Doug
  • pulling in for free warrenty work is not as easy as it sounds, your rig could sit on there lot for months waiting on a five dollar part.
  • Read through the post here- http://www.rv-dreams.com/rv-insurance.html

    Very informative.

I would go used with an extended warranty.

I appreciate the link, but must have missed in the post where it talks about extended warranties?
  • Suggest go for a good used coach, then get an extended service contract like camping world sells. A year later and after getting to know the coach you can then make a decision about the service contract for second and subsequent years.
