New Tire time (beat up subject I know)

Well it is time for some new tires for my 1994 Dodge Coachmen Saratoga. Went to my local Discount Tire and thinking either Michelin Defender LTX or BFG Goodrich All Terrains 245/75-16 are in order. What has been peoples experience with these tires?
  • This is really odd in that I have a PleasureWay like Islandman and also had Toyo Open Country tires on it. I also bought them at Les Schwabb and got so so results with them for about 27,000 miles and then they started coming apart. Eventually I ended up buying 4 new Toyo tires again from Les Schwabb. Immediately after they were installed I noticed that I couldn't control the vehicle very well and was all over the road. I called Toyo headquarters and spoke to some young female who gave me a bunch of grief(too long of a story to tell) and said I should return to the dealer who was an hour away. Yeah right! I don't appreciate being lectured to by somebody who knows less than I do about anything!

Finally got back home and went to a local Les Schwabb who refunded all my money on the Toyos and installed Michelin XPS and that took care of the problem. Never ever Toyos again. I have a long memory.

    Les Schwabb again definitely!
  • Try Toyo Open Country tires from Les Schwab; had them on our Pleasure-Way and liked them better than the original equipment Michelins. And you just can't beat the service provided by Les Schwab, they're No. 1 in my book!
  • I am getting Thunderer Ranger tires installed on my 89 Dodge 250 in a couple of weeks. The shop says they sale a lot of them. Reviews online look good. The tire guy did recommend tire covers and to set on plywood to make them last longer if the van is not driven a lot.
  • I love my Hurculese AT2's. Firm sidewall, aggressive tread but little road noise,55.000 mile warranty with road hazard. $580 out the door. After year and a half and 10,000 miles doing well. I have a Dodge van,Coachmen Saratoga aprox. 7,700 lbs.

Check out Firestone Transforce HT, good value and performance.

    X2.

I always used Michelins, but I needed replacements during their big recall & my size was not available. Went with the Firestones for over $100 less and they are still working fine.
  • My Sprinter van has had Michelins, BFG, Goodyear at one time or another. I'm most satisfied with Goodyear on a cost value basis. BFG will never again be on a vehicle I own. Ever. Two rear tires with tread separation and two fronts that seemed to break down way too quickly. Michelins performed ok but cost was a deal breaker the second time around.
  • Join FMCA and get a great price on Michelin tires. I have the same size tires on my Roadtrek and GMC MH and last year I got 6 Michelin for about $900. the the FMCA Advantage program.
  • Have had both types on my truck. Both are really good. Both last long time. Some will say Michelin over BFG or whatever, but I'd say you can't go wrong with either. That is a personal opinion.

Note: I have the Defender's on my GMC now.
