New tires

With the last 11,000 miles of the 51,000 miles on the Michelin LTX MS2, I can recommend them. I have driven up to 75-80 MPH on the highway coast to coast and in wet and snowy conditions. The traction, handling and braking is very good and better than the OEM Continental tires. After the first 10,000 miles, the original tires showed feathering and scuffing on the front tires that made it necessary to rotate the tires often. I thought the wheel alignment was off. The new tires show no signs of unusual wear. A mystery to me. As I drive long distances across many states, I chose the Michelin LTX because it is available everywhere. Don't overlook other tire brands; there are some good alternatives. But, here is what I do know: We have a 1998 Mazda 4WD that came with Michelin tires. Choosing a second set was a no-brainer. On all our other vehicles when we replaced the OEM tires with Michelin, it was always a noticeable improvement. On a few occasions I took the advice of the local regional tire shop and regretted it. One car went through three sets of different tires in the first 50,000 miles. Finally it went to Costco for a set of Michelins. Now at over 100,000 still running on the Michelins.

Sounds like 30-ft and 19.5 wheels make this a Class A. If so, click "Notify Moderator" and ask to have it moved.

A tire dealer can look up the Offset Requirements for the existing and proposed tires. Then measure Offset of the Rims. Offset is the distance from the center of one mounted rim to the center of the other. For one wheel, distance from center to mounting face.

Say your old tires require 9" offset and your rims are 10". That's OK. Extra space between sidewalls doesn't hurt a thing. Now say your new tires require 11" offset but the rims are 10". No good! Sidewalls will rub and the tires will fail.

Bought 6 new tires Firestone Transforce HT from Ford Dealer. $1300 but nice tires. Don't go cheap since they keep you on the road safely.

Have long solid metal custom formed valve stems installed while you are having new tires installed. These things make checking tire pressures easy with beauty disks installed and don't leak. Don't use cheap screw-on valve extenders, they can unscrew, leak and cause tire failure. Google Borg or Tire Man.

If you decide to use Michelin tires, check out major brand tire store prices on the internet, print out page with price, balanced, installed and other charges. Call local tire shops and get estimates for six (6) tires. They will usually try to match or beat internet dealer price. Discount Tires is a good source, Allen tires is another. I don't think that Costco mounts RV tires.

Discount tire or America's tire based on what part of the country you are in will match tire rack.com pricing. I run Michelins or bridgestones on all my vehicles. Michelin's on the heavier

ones. I wouldn't buy tires from an RV dealer, ever.

We are on our second set of Yokohama Tires from Discount Tires. Highly recommend these tires.

Hankook — tire brand
LT — "Light truck" series tire
225/75R16 — tire size: 225 mm width, 75 aspect ratio, 16" wheel diameter. (The aspect ratio is the ratio of the sidewall height to the tread width, in percent. A bigger number generally means a taller sidewall.)

Don't ask me why tire sizes are expressed using a metric measurement, a dimensionless measurement, and an imperial measurement, but they are.

Somewhere it probably also says a load range of "E" and a maximum pressure of 80 psi. That's a standard tire size for many light/medium duty trucks and vans.

Just as a heads up: Check out Costco as well. We got our batteries there for our new solar system saving a small fortune and the quote we got for tires apples to apples comparison for 6 for our MH ended up being $600 cheaper and half price for the labour/valves/balancing etc.

Happy Travels, we were virgin RVers back in 1999 and I remember it like yesterday how excited but nervous were we - past few years we've been doing more and more extended trips of 6 to 8 weeks, leave for one in less than 2 weeks, and within year and half will be FTer's. Be warned it can become addictive!
