Newbie Question about RV Insurance

Here in Ca. we were just told that we had to increase our AAA coverage to collision and comp. for our 1983 class C. Funny thing is our rate went down. We pay $1200 yearly for two cars and the RV.

We have a '98 Class C: insured with Geico with the vehicles- full coverage, roadside service, trip interruption coverage and $500 deductible for less than $200/ 6 mo period.

I thought your estimate seemed high. We're in the same boat as wbwood, we pay less per year than your 6 month quote for full coverage and $500 deductible with Geico. All of our vehicles are with Geico and they claim we save almost $200/6 months as a result.

Thanks for the link to the article. Knowing that one of the other major insurance companies can provide me equivalent coverage for almost half the price will get me motivated to do the search. It is unfortunate that my "neighborly" insurance company is unable to do the same.

Changing the deductible from $250 to $500 does little to reduce the insurer's risk. $500 is still a small deductible. Most small damage goes beyond that with today's labor costs, prices of parts like windshields. A deductible of $1000, $2000 or more will usually bring comprehensive premiums down, particularly if you also do not cover contents. Still, for most automotive policies, comprehensive is usually not much more than 1/4 to 1/3 of the premium, liability is often half and you can't do much to reduce that except to move. Found that out by taking some low value vehicles to liability coverage only.

Then of course, if the rules are "no fault" you don't have much room to manipulate the balance between insured risks and risks you take on yourself.

We have Geico on our 98 Travelmaster and we pay $185 every 6 months.

Try Progressive on line. My '93 class C is $300 a year with full coverage. That's $500 deductible.

That was what my insurance agent stated, "we don't insure many RV's". I did not think that would mean higher premiums for me.
