- RichNewcomeExplorerI own a 2016 Nexus 32SC that I ordered new from Nexus. I am generally pleased with it now that I have dealt with some things that were an issue with me. Depending on the options you have, and there are many, you may or may not consider them problems. For example, mine has the tankless water heater which can be somewhat annoying at time though it has some advantages. The all-in-one receiver-GPS-backup monitor was a problem were I ended up installing a separate monitor and a standalone GPS. That might not be an issue for everyone. But as far as the basic chassis and the coach design which all would have in common, I can think of maybe four issues.
Fuel mileage: My previous MH was a 2005 Newmar Vantana, 33'DP, Cummins ISB engine, with an UVW of 21,950. Over 54,000 miles it averaged 9.0 MPG. The Nexus with a UVW of 17,104 has averaged 8.4 over 6,300 miles. All miles were towing a Jeep with both. I expected a little better.
Ground clearances: The 32SC sits lower to the ground than the Newmar with air suspension did. My RV garage had a relative steep ramp leading into it. I had to raise the jack mountings to keep from dragging and modified the towing hitch to get additional clearance. Neither change was sufficient and I had to have a new ramp poured to make the slope more gradual. This issue was probably unique to me, but it is something to consider if you might have similar circumstances.
Electrical: Depending on your tolerance for such things, the transfer switch and inverter along with the water pump and water filter (if you have one) are all together under the rear bed. The electrical hum was incessant, and to my way of thinking, not the best of circumstances. I had ordered the solar package with 300 watts of panels and a 2000 watt inverter. The inverter only supplied power to the TV, as near as I remember, which seemed to be a waste. Anyway, I relocated the transfer switch and inverter to the electrical bay which is under the bed in the pass-through area. I also rewired the AC circuit to include all outlets. Now the microwave can be used on the road without starting the generator.
I think that pretty well covers all of the things that were issues to me. Since you are looking at used one, hopefully most of the minor issues will have been resolved. - cajundragExplorerI own a 2017 Phantom 35SC, that I too ordered from Nexus. Overall it has been a very good coach for us. We are not full timers, so primarily use the coach for towing our trailer to race events and family road trips. I had a few minor issues that was rectified by my local Rv service center via Nexus. No major problems there. I think all RV's will have some issues along the way as well as it's own pluses and minuses. I don't think the perfect RV is out there :) Ground clearance of the trailer hitch was a issue for me too, but I solved that by changing the style hitch I had. If you are getting a good price and the style of coach works for you I don't see a problem
- cross21114ExplorerWe just picked up our 2018 Nexus Ghost 36DS last week. We opted for the 10,000# hitch instead of the standard 20,000# hitch since the larger capacity hitch was lower (and who needs 20k?). However, I needed a 4" drop for my tow bar and stupidly tried to pull in my driveway without taking the tow bar off. Dragged the tow bar. Lesson learned. Hitch did not drag. Only put 700 miles on it and had a good overnight with the grandkids the day after we got back, but so far so good. Averaged just over 9mpg coming back from Elkhart. Hope to do better after breakin.
- wydglydrydrExplorerI took delivery of my 2018 Phantom 35SC on Sept 6. I too had issues that needed to be addressed, but that comes with any coach. Since the coach you're looking at is used, it's quite likely the minor issues have all been resolved.
The one thing I want to point out about my new Nexus that I am absolutely thrilled with, and expect you would be too, is how it drives. I was in a bus on a Ford F-53 chassis for the last eight years. Every bump, expansion joint and pothole on the road was teeth rattling. We couldn't carry on a normal conversation in the front seats because of the rattling, echos, and non-stop noise. I made numerous "improvements" to it, but driving it was always a chore. I was 10 minutes down the road in this Nexus, and was literally grinning. It is solid and comfortable. My maiden voyage was 2500 miles and it was a pleasure to drive every single one of them. - b17drvrExplorerI love my 34DS. Drives great and quality built.
