YES, IF IF IF the logic board saw low battery and wouldn't try to run the fridge. The converter/charger would shortly raise voltage enough to satisfy the board.
I'd feel much better about the low battery idea if you hadn't seen it sparking. Spark on reduced battery power but NOT open the Gas Valve? I don't have any knowledge to support that idea...
