For trips shorter than 10k miles I just change before the trip. The longest trip I made was to Alaska and had to change the oil twice. Once was in a state park and asked if it was OK and my friend who has a DP and I just changed it there, very easy and quick on a class A gas much longer on his, but he is a full-timer and had a mechanics suit and set up to do it on the road. The second time was at boondock site just dropped the used oil of at a Walmart when are wive's shopped for food.
