Oil change while on the road

We'll be taking an extended trip later this summer and will need to get an oil change on our gasser. I know Jiffy Lubes etc are out due to size and the Walmarts near us don't have bays big enough. Any suggestions as to where to go?

I do mine at campground, lay down plastic to catch any thing that might splatter out, and grease while oil is draining. All done in about 20 min's.

I find it's faster and easier to do it myself. Get a 2-3 gal oil pan that seals, roll out a tarp to protect the area, change your oil, take the oid back to where you bought the new oil for recycle.

done it many times on the road

after paying $150 for an oil change on the road once, I decided to do it myself for about $40 and a little time, most times I can do it myself faster than driving to service center, checking in, waiting, driving back....

Since you are a part of this community and forum, I would wait until the oil change was due then I would post here for suggestions for an oil change for a given location. I would think you would get a response from a fellow RVer.

How long is the trip? Think the gas V10 can go 7-10K miles between oil changes? Do it before you leave and take an extra quart with you.
+1
Just keep it topped off until you get home.

For trips shorter than 10k miles I just change before the trip. The longest trip I made was to Alaska and had to change the oil twice. Once was in a state park and asked if it was OK and my friend who has a DP and I just changed it there, very easy and quick on a class A gas much longer on his, but he is a full-timer and had a mechanics suit and set up to do it on the road. The second time was at boondock site just dropped the used oil of at a Walmart when are wive's shopped for food.

That is EXACTLY what we do. On the road, empty one of our Rubbermade storage containers, line it with two HD trash bags (so two layers of protection) and drain the diesel. Use an old coffee can to pour it into the jugs after filling the crankcase. Put the gallon jugs back in the case and take to Walmart.

^^^ This. Just do it before you leave.

A few years back I was pulling a TT across the country and back with my Super Duty. I knew the oil would need changing along the way and I knew it was something I didn't want to deal with. I had it changed locally before I left, problem solved.
There are 24 hours in every day - it all depends on how you choose to use them.

Interesting quandary!

In the gas vs diesel debate, one of the pros for gas is that anyone can work on them, whereas diesel is specialized. It would seem that when looking at a shop big enough to accept a motorhome, the gas engine is the foreigner.

In preparation for buying a class A I was just looking into service options. You can search through Ford commercial service online and the various dealers list what type of equipment they can work on (class A, class C, F650, dump trucks, etc.). They also list the size/length of service bays and lift capacity. My take away was to either search this way or just call a dealer in an area I need service and I'd have to think if they can't help you the service writer would know a nearby dealer to send you to, if there is one.

OP: It would help to create a Signature line which will automatically appear on your posts. Then folks know what kind/size RV you have.

However, I clicked on your Profile and if it's current you have a 29' Holiday Rambler Atlantis which I assume is a Class A. I believe some WalMarts would work if you gave them a call beforehand when you get into a new town.

Most Ford dealers will do oil changes, especially if they sell commercial trucks and vans.

It's always a good idea to put the particulars of your RV in your signature so people have a better idea of what kind of RV you are talking about.

Guessing you have a C, even though you posted in the Class A section, wherever you land for a few days, just do a google search for Truck Shops and call them. If they can do a semis oil change they can do yours.
