- Old_BlueExplorerI do not know the proper miles, time etc. when to change the oil, but we do it once a year or about 5000 miles. I know that it isn't many miles but when the camper just sits with changing temps. I do not want any thing to go bad with the oil. We also change the fuel filters at that time. I figure that oil and filters are cheaper than some kind of breakdown.
Just my opinion
Our engine is a Cummins 325
Bill - sch911ExplorerPretty sure our Cummins ISL oil change interval is 20,000 mi according to the manual.
- lanerdExplorer IICummins requires a milage and/or time limit, but, like Bill, we don't put many miles on our ISL during the year and the coach pretty much sets all year......so we too change oil and filters once a year which is Cummins' time limit.
Ron - janechucknicodeExplorerIF you have just purchased this unit, and have proof of services. Then your driving has a lot to do with your own service tactics. Weather, dust and highway miles make a lot of difference on engine service. Plus mountains, deserts and such. So get to a dealer and a get a book on that engine.
Find out about it and do not wait for this internet place to say this or that.
I drove for several years 11 western states and Canada. hills and flats, we serviced my truck every 4500 miles and oil was changed every 8000 miles. All filters , that included oil, air and fuel filters.. Remember preventive maintenance is better than emergency repair work.
Not once did I have a break down.
Good luck. and get a book or have it serviced by a pro.

How often should you do an oil change on a diesel engine?
Follow what your engine manual says - 1320FastbackExplorerEvery 250 Hours if it has a Hobbs meter.

Ron
me too.
or prior to any long trip. - NomadacExplorerOil and filters once a year.
- wolfe10ExplorerTwo choices:
1. Follow the recommendations of your engine manufacturer for your engine AND MODEL YEAR. I know both Caterpillar and Cummins recommend once a year irrespective of mileage.
2. Do oil analysis to determine if your oil is still in good condition. - jwolf55ExplorerI have a CAT C7 7.2L I think it calls for 15.000 miles but I do not put that many mile on mine so I do it once a year.
I do not remember how much it holds but it takes 21 quarts when you change it.
I bought a large drain pan for Amazon (about $80) and I change it myself.
I buy two 2.5 gal jugs of Shell Rotella 15-40 Hd Diesel oil for usually around $29 a jug on sale from Rural King, I buy one quart of Lucas Diesel oil stabilizer for $9 and a filter from Cat for $14.
total a little over $80 less than the cost of a fuel fill up.
Takes about 20 minutes about the same as a car only the filter and drain plug are a lot easier to get to and drain straight out missing all frames and other parts that are in the way on a car.
I do not jack it up just raise it up a little to get under it with the levelling jacks. Good time to hit you jacks and other parts with a grease gun.
