This is a follow up question.
5BGE gas powered (2000 Damon Intruder. Have replaced fuel pump and filter, but still shuts off when switch is released. Oil level is full, battery is fully charged. Full tank fresh fuel. It runs until the switch is released
What suggestions do you have to trouble-shoot for additional solutions to the problem?
Thanks for any help.

Well I took the rig to Craig's, generator shop,in Pensacola, FL.
Had to replace voltage reg., and cleaned the slip ring.
If in this area Craig's is the place to go. When he showed me the slip ring I though he would tell me it would require removal and replacement. But, he said no just need cleaning. Did that in about a minute, with sandpaper on a piece of wood.
Could have charged a lot of labor, but he did not.
Nice to deal with an honest shop.

Thanks for all your help.

And no wonder I go to no end for doing what I can for myself.
Now, if someone just had a good used stator for my Generac Q55G, I could get it back together and installed in short order.
Dragging my feet with this, I know and because I don't really need it right now for short weekend trips to campgrounds and eventually will bite the bullet and spend the $400 for a new one.
Now there you go and you can buy a new Chinese Champion 3500 watt for under $300. Yep, the whole genset brand new and with good reviews as well. Pull start of course, let alone dash board control and mods would be needed for installing it in the same compartment, but the point is, why do parts for these OEM units, cost so much and especially when most are subbed out to China anyway.

Not bad and when you're doing your own work.
Can't imagine what Cummins might charge for the complete job.

I mean, I'd like for the engine to run without consideration to what the generator itself might be doing.

It's a safety feature.
If there is no output from the gen....or very low....there is a good chance that something inside is shorted and might start a fire VERY quickly.

That's what circuit breakers are for and not unlike any other electrical system, I mean what's your shore power supposed to do about anticipating all this, either with your coach or in your home, as well....

The output circuit breaker would not stop the current in an internal generator short, just as your house circuit breakers won't stop a short circuit in the power lines outside the house (or the RV breakers won't do anything to break a short circuit in the shore power cord).

I realize all that and am very familiar with the properties of electrical systems. Just saying that it goes on and on and enough is enough, with making something like a generator set that complicated and even more costly for fixes.
A good example of what you're saying is the 50/30amp converter cords that are UL approved. So, now you have a 50amp breaker that in essence, is supposed to be protecting #10awg wiring that makes up the shore power cord on 30amp coaches. Thing is, a direct short will trip it anyway and the chances for a continuous current draw above the wire rating is highly improbable.

This easy fix, cost how much?
