Onan Marquis 5000 how clean?

Hey guys! I have a 1996 Bounder 34j with 11k miles and 400hrs on the Onan Marquis 5000 generator. I am curious how safe it is to run modern electronics on it. I have HDTV’s, Computers, satellites, cameras, etc..

Thanks!

How clean? VERY, not as good as a true sine inverter, but likely cleaner than shore power.. I've never had an issue with my 5500

NOTE: If it has not been exercised in a while (Should run 1/2 hour every month under 1/2 or load. or more in both 1/2s) you might want to run it an hour or two with non-electronic loads as cleaning up the power is ONE of the things regular exercise accomplishes

Not exactly true. Brushes are used to excite the rotor.

  • perfectly safe, no problems about 'clean'
your modern electronics are less 'line' noise sensitive than the same thing built in 1996
in fact lots of electronics now make more 'hash' noise than older stuff
because of the switching power supplies in them
  • I have a 5500 that runs all of the above with no problems. I have more capacity with it than with shore power(5500w/120v=more than 30a). I would not be too worried with new electronics, since most of them have step-down power supplies.
